Jerry King, who spent most of his life in Terre Haute and called Vigo County home for fifty years, passed away on January 20th in Kansas City, Missouri, after a long and courageous fight with Parkinson’s disease.
Jerry was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Jerome Richard King and Helen Mutz King (Banner). His life took him many places — from serving proudly in the United States Air Force, to building a career at Premier Boxboard in Cayuga, where he worked from 1979 until 2006. He later earned his degree from Ivy Tech, something he took great pride in.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Carol (McShanog) King, whom he loved deeply.
Jerry leaves behind his son, Jerome Anthony “Tony” King, and daughter in law Rachael, of Kansas City, Missouri. He was a proud grandfather to Michael King, John King (Emily) and Katherine King. His face always lit up when he talked about his great grandson, Henry King. He also leaves three step children—James McShanog, Kimberly, and Debbie—along with many step grandchildren and great grandchildren who were part of his extended family.
Those who knew Jerry will remember the things that made him unmistakably him. He had a soft spot for boxer dogs and raised several over the years, each one spoiled and loved. He found joy in the quiet, patient hobbies of stamp collecting and searching for Asian ceramics, treasures he appreciated not for their value but for the stories they carried. Jerry was steady, loyal, and gentle spirited — he was jovial, happy and always had a smile, he was the kind of man who didn’t need to say much for people to feel his presence.
Most of all, he will be remembered as a man who loved his family, lived simply, and found happiness in the small things that made life meaningful.
Visitation will be held on January 30, 2026 from 11am to 1pm at Roselawn Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 1pm. Entombment at Roselawn Memorial Park.
