Jesse Donald Williams was born on January 1, 1939 in Patricksburg, Indiana. The son of Lara and Irene Williams, Jesse was raised in Terre Haute and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November 1955, where he served as an underwater demolitions tech until he left the service in December 1958. He settled down in Ridgecest, California with his wife Lee, and together they had four children – twins Christine and Catherine, followed by Linda and then Larry. Jesse and Lee eventually separated, and Jesse returned to Terre Haute. A few years later Jesse met and married Beverly Ann Williams, and took Steve to raise as his own. After a career in construction and ironworking, Jesse and Beverly purchased Northside Tire Service in 1976 and struck out on their own. The business was good to them, and allowed them to live a full life of family, friends and travel, and allowed for them to provide for their now combined family of five kids. They retired from business several years ago, and in recent years Jesse’s health began to deteriorate, exacerbated by the burns he suffered in a 2013 fire which nearly took him from us. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cathy in 2014; a brother, Joe Williams in 2015; a grandson, Daniel in 2002 and a granddaughter, Rebecca in 1982. A celebration of Jesse’s life will be held on Monday, June 27 at 10 AM at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Interment with Honors will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 26, 2016 from 1 to 4 P.M. at the funeral home. He lived life with gusto, was not afraid to be himself in front of friends and strangers alike. Words cannot begin to tell the measure of this man, and he will be sorely missed every day of our lives.
