

John Demeter, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Cobblestone Crossings Health Campus. He was born on June 12, 1929, in Daisytown, Pennsylvania, to William Demeter and Helen (Hollis) Demeter Sas. He married Joy Templeton on March 18, 1961, in New York.
John proudly served in the United States Army. He earned his Master’s Degree of Science in Engineering at Cornell and Carnegie Tech. He worked as a Structural Engineer for Ewing Miller and Associates and HNTB for many years. He designed the structures of many buildings: Macy’s, the ISU dorms, Coca Cola Building, and the Grand Floridian Hotel in Disneyworld (part of Epcot), just to name a few.
John is survived by his daughters: Susan (Mike) Willock of Terre Haute and Sandy (Jeff) James of New Whiteland; a brother Joseph (Phyllis) Demeter of Erie, PA; his cherished dog, Danny; grandchildren, Tiffany (Erik) Heng, Laura (Jonathan) Bergdoll, Stephanie Willock, Kevin (Shana Dennis) James, and Ashley Willock (Chad Curtis); and great-grandchildren, David Heng and John Bergdoll; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and family.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary “Joy” Demeter; his parents; sisters, Helen Gabriel, Ginnie Strumilla, and Suzie Kauffman; and a brother, William Demeter.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Ken Coffman officiating. John will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife in Roselawn Memorial Park.
