

John V. McNeill, 81, of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Union Hospital. He was born on September 16, 1933, in Shelburn, to John and Grace (Johnson) McNeill. John proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957. He worked for 30 years at Stran Steel.
John was an avid Cubs, Colts, and IU fan. In his younger days, John played music for local bands in the 1960’s and 1970’s. John was a country boy at heart, he loved coming home every day from school and working on his family farm. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. John was an expert mushroom hunter and never missed a year. He also loved to garden, by hand, his large garden that took up almost a full city block.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Lynn (Bridgewater) McNeill; a son, Steve McNeill; his parents; brothers, Donald McNeill, David McNeill and James McNeill; a sister, Virginia Stamper; and a stepson, Thomas French.
John is survived by his children, Randy (Joanne) McNeill of Terre Haute, Clinton Jay McNeill of Memphis, TN, Eldonna Herrington of Terre Haute, IN, John V McNeill, Jr (Pam) of Ft. Wayne, IN, Brad (Billi) McNeill of Rosedale, IN, Scott (Barbara) McNeill of Rockville, IN, Ronald (Carol) McNeill of Terre Haute, and Kim (Ryan) Minks of Jasonville, IN; grandchildren: April Wall, JR Wall, Amy Eberhardt , Mandy McNeill, Raven (Michael) Brown, Holly Chesterfield, Kivi Pelletier, Michelle Pelletier, Brant (Jenny) McNeill , Megan (Darren) Maher, Steven Jr. (Autumn) McNeill , Daniel McNeill, Clinton McNeill, Troy (Amber) French, Ciara (Quinton), Kylie (Joshua) Helton, Jase (Shaina) McClintock, Brett (Nyela) McNeill , Cole McClintock, Dawson McNeill, Baylee McNeill, Magdylan McNeill, Skylar McNeill, Kaytlyn McNeill, and Cassie McNeill, Jonathan Tarwater, Kayla Pine, Tarah Pine, and Kaden Minks; twenty-five great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Williamson, a brother, Ronald McNeill; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 5 at Thomas Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home with Rev. Linda Snider officiating.
