Nécrologie de Martha Anne Gordish
Martha Ann Gordish, 82, of Terre Haute, IN., left this world to be with her beloved husband, James (Jim) Gordish, on Monday, April 1, 2019. She was born February 27, 1937, to Allen Jennings and Florence Jackson Willig in Bloomington, IL. Martha is survived by two daughters; Malinda Gordish and Mary Rebecca (Kenny) Wilkey; as well as one son, John (Robin) Gordish, Martha also had a fourth child Timothy Gordish. Timothy, her first child, only survived for four short days before being called up to heaven. Martha was the proud grandmother of Joshua (Kristina) Gordish, Matthaüs Gruce, Destiny Wilkey, Breonnia (Brianna) Wilkey, Johnathan Gordish, and Nicole Gordish; as well as three gorgeous great-grandchildren; Joshua Gordish, Jaden Gordish, and Mia Gordish. Martha is also survived by her brother’s children, with two nephews, and three nieces. Due to Jim’s extensive military service (31 years), Jim and Martha became world traveler’s, speaking multiple languages and raising their kids in multiple countries when they were younger, and when Jim and Martha returned to the United States, they settled in Terre Haute. Sadly, Jim passed away a few short years after retiring from the military. Widower and a mother of three, Martha quickly developed into both the Mother/Father for her children, always the pillar of support, understanding, warmhearted, loved to laugh and tell a good joke. Martha was proud to be a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 43, Life Member of VFW # 972, American Legion Post 346, and a member of the Sycamore Club, where she loved to play cards in the evenings. Martha was a graduate of Normal Community High School in Normal, Ill, and a graduate from Indiana State University with a B. S. in Accounting, where she worked within her field until she retired. Martha supported her children through civic organizations such as; 4-H, Jobs Daughter’s, Wm. H. Baugh DeMolay’s, and the Girl Scouts & Boy Scouts of America that would assist in developing the children into responsible adults, later in life. Visitation will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. with a funeral ceremony taking place at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday April 13, 2019 at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Roush officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VFW # 972, 1111 Veteran Square, Terre Haute, IN 47807, or American Legion Post 346, 1346 Wabash Ave, Terre Haute, IN 47807 – two of Martha’s favorite civic organizations that assist the community.
