Melvin attended Gerstmeyer High School from 1959 to 1963. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, taking photos and his family. He also liked to cook. He was an assistant coach for women’s fast pitch softball. They were state champions twelve times between 1966 to 1980. He worked at Smith-Alsop, MAB and Hulman Company.
Melvin is survived by sisters, Mary Stansberry of California, Doris Venters of Florida and Delores Wilson of Terre Haute, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Lillian Austin and Corrine Phelps and brothers, Edward, William and Benny.
Cremation has been chosen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Melvin’s honor to a humane shelter of choice, or to a charity of your choice.
