Grandma, i always admired your energy, passion and enthusiasm for all things and especially people. You truly had a big heart and its impact resounds more and more in me each and every day. You had a lot to teach and were always more than happy to share. Every moment with you was intriguing and exciting and i will miss those moments and most of all, you. Thank you for everything and I love you and look forward to the day when we will meet again. : *

Grandma Scavone was an incredibly dynamic woman.  She would always have a story to share.  She had such amazing things to say about her children, grandchildren and was so proud of her increasing number of great-grandkids. I loved to hear about her talk about her and Grandpa John, their children and about my brothers, sisters and myself as young children. She loved and cared about every single person in her life. Grandma had a passion about her that no one could equal. I love you Grandma and will always carry you with me. You will be in my heart forever.

My Mother was a vivacious woman. Anyone she met, anything she did and said made an impact.
My Mother was born during the Great Depression when there was so much hardship and poverty. She had one brother, Frank Lee Doughty, Jr. and nine sisters: Virginia, Margaret, Ruth, Dorothy, Birdie, Odell, Gertrude, Nellie, and Mary Ann.  My Mother and her siblings had very little in the way of food, clothes, and toys as they grew up. 
She loved attending school and learning. She was the Captain of her school's softball team.
When she was 16 years old, my Mother moved to Saratoga Springs, New York to help her married sister, Dot, care for her three children, Donald, Angelo, and Charles. She got a job to help pay bills and buy her nephews furniture and clothes. It was in Saratoga Springs my Mother met my Father. She told me that when they held hands she knew he was the one for her. My Father would sing to her with his mellow voice while they strolled. He would sing the song, “Walking My Baby Back Home” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQhvm35s7y0
She loved gardening and grew roses, gladiolus, bachelor buttons, lilac bushes, and lily of the valley. Anything she touched grew; she had a “green thumb”. 
She cared deeply about her family, friends, neighbors, and community. She believed in giving and did so generously to each and all. She was always working on ways to be of service. I recall one of those ways was training to be a Civil Defense nurse in case of a nuclear attack or some other catastrophic event.  She would practice on my brothers and me setting our “broken “limbs and teaching us the steps to protect against radiation poisoning.
She loved music and dancing. She would do her housework to Tchaiskovsky's   “Flight of the Bumblebee “ and adored Nat King Cole's singing. She loved to oil paint and draw, to synchronize swim, crochet, cook, and chat. My Mother was amazingly creative and always had some project she was working on, whether it was blankets for her children and grandchildren, dolls to sell, or something else.
She loved her pets. Labrador the Retriever, Sparky the Spaniel, Chippers the Squirrel Monkey, Gidget the Toy Poodle, Duke the Doberman Pinscher, Phoebe and Sabastian her cats, and Freddie. And they loved her. 
My Mother loved to learn new things, but drew the line at writing after taking a Creative Writing course at a local college. She told me, “it was so hard for me, emotionally, I will not ever be able to write (creatively) again.”
My Mother loved to talk. She was a natural storyteller in the way of that ancient art. I listened, spellbound, to her tell and retell the many and various adventures and experiences of her life. She never tired of sharing them with those willing to listen. 
“Home is wherever I hang my hat,” my Mother said, “so I am at home wherever I am.” Looks like my Mother has hung her hat in Heaven.
Mother, I love you very much and always will. I miss you more than words can tell.

Grandma Scavone was a beautiful woman with a beautiful heart. She was proud of her family and always made you feel special. She adored her family but she always mentioned the love of her life her husband, Grandpa John. We only hope to have a loving and long lasting marriage like they did.

We will truly miss her, but what we will miss the most is her voice and her exciting conversations that could last for hours. We will miss her singing to us and how she would always say," Hello there,.... this is your grandmother, from Indiana!", even though we have caller ID and of course we recognized her voice right away.

We will miss her, always remember her and know she will be watching over us. 

We love you Grandma...

She spoke her mind. About anything and everything. She was a chatter bug. I would call to thank her, and have a 2 hour conversation. She did more for me than she knows. And I thank you for that, grandma. RIP. Love you. Know that at least.
