Thomas Lee McCain, 76, of Rosedale, passed away on January 23, 2020 at Union Hospital. He was born on November 9, 1943 to Chauncey Stacey and Anna (Basham) McCain. He married Connie Tyler on June 1, 1968. Thomas is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Connie McCain of Rosedale; son, Shawn McCain and wife Melisa of Bargersville; grandson, Aiden McCain of Bargersville; sisters, Joan Hamilton and husband Bill of Terre Haute, Yvonne Laybold of Westfield, and Linda Bonness and husband Robert of Terre Haute; brother, Stephen McCain and wife Jan of Terre Haute; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Moyra McCain; and a brother-in-law, Carl Laybold. Thomas attended Otter Creek High School and graduated from Garfield High School after the two schools merged. He served for several years in the Indiana National Guard. He worked as a machine operator at Midland Glass for 23 years. Thomas then went to work as a custodian for the Vigo County School Corporation, first at West Vigo High School and then at the administrative building, retiring after working another 23 years. In his younger days, Thomas enjoyed the solitude of nature: fishing, hunting, and mushroom hunting were some of his favorite outdoor activities. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, January 31 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m., on Friday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Moyra McCain Memorial Fund, First Financial Bank, C/O Darcy Wertz, 50 Branigin Road, Franklin, IN 46131. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. Roselawn Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
