

Thomas R. Strole, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Union Hospital. Tom was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Homewood, Ill., the son of the late Thomas and Alice (John) Strole. He proudly served our country during the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army. Tom retired as a millwright after 33 years of service at Stran Steel. He enjoyed following the Cubs and Dodgers baseball, along with World War II history. He was a generous, kind and helpful man. Tom's memory will live on in the lives of those he touched for generations to come.
He is survived by his three children, Mary J. and husband Marvin Minkler of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Nancy and husband Robert Eaton of Terre Haute, and Michael Strole of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Sam Compton, Nathan Wiram, Jim Eaton, Patrick Eaton, Maisy Strole, Thomas Strole, Reid Strole and Liz Minkler; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Destiny and Mary Jane Compton; sisters, Helen Holmes, Janet Dible and Alice Ann and husband Jay Jeffers; special friend, companion and caregiver, Eleonore Harris; and several loving nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his two spouses, the former Janet Mellon and Ingeborg Haviland; great-granddaughter, Mercedes Compton; sister, Mary Jane Strole; and brothers-in-law, Frank Holmes and Bud Dible.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m., and again on Thursday, July 26, 2012, from 9 a.m. until services at 10 a.m., at Roselawn Funeral Home.
