Joyce Clark, of Terrell, passed into the arms of her Savior peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 21, 2014. Joyce was born June 3, 1938 in Atlanta, Texas to James and Hazel (Wommack) Campbell, both of whom preceded her in death along with her husband, James ‘Dumpy’ Clark and twin grandsons, Robert and Kevin Cain. Joyce grew up in Atlanta with close family and close friends. Without many material possessions, she had many memories of how she and her friends kept themselves entertained with games and their imaginations. Her house had a swing and, at night, all the kids would come to her porch and play, sing and swing until time to go home. At school, they played jacks and jumped rope. They played on swings, johnnys (wooden bars on a chain that went around a pole) and see-saws. Joyce enjoyed school especially math and in the 6th grade, she was the valedictorian of her class. Joyce remembered that most of the girls growing up pretended to be nurses but she liked to pretend to be a secretary. Later on ,as an adult, she would work as a bookkeeper. Church was important to Joyce and at an early age she realized the value of being a servant to the Lord and to others. She enjoyed the social activities that the Nazarene Church provided until she turned 12 after which she attended the Baptist church. She met and later married Dumpy Clark while he was serving in the Air Force and she was a faithful wife who could always be depended on to make sure that he was taken care of as well as her children. She worked in Terrell with Sears for several years as well as bookkeeping for C.T. Martin Construction, Charlie Burr, Ronnie Lott, Bob Mitchell and then most recently for Dr. Vyas’ office. She was an active and beloved member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Terrell and she had a wonderful joyous impact on so many members’ lives. Joyce was tireless in showing love to her family and friends. Her children will always treasure her as a mother who would sacrifice everything for their well-being. Joyce was not only a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was also their best friend and biggest supporter of their accomplishments. Joyce loved to attend Gospel Singing’s and was known as the "business manager and roady" for Still Blessed. Her genuine personality and sweet spirit will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. It has been said that “once you were friends with Joyce you became a member of her family”. Joyce is survived by her son: Phil Clark and wife, Susie of Terrell, daughters: Brenda Horn and fiance' Jerry Morgan of Terrell and Sharon Cain and husband, Bobby of Lake Jackson; grandchildren: Ryan Horn and wife, Raquel, Jordan Horn, Jennifer Nolen and husband, Shane, Shelbi Clark and fiance’ Colby Gibson, Sarah Reed and husband, Richard, and Scott Cain; great grandchildren: Alyssa Horn, Ryder Horn, Serenity Horn, Addison Nolen, Braxton Gibson Andrea Reed, Sage Mankus, Jaden Rice, Kyrin Rice; brothers: David Campbell and wife, Bonnie of Ennis, Michael Campbell and wife, Glenda, of Texarkana; dear friends, Emma Acuna, Betty Brandon, Frances Raney, Betty Boyd, Diane Furrh and Casey Grimm as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends.
