Donald Ray Newton, 73, of Hooks, TX died Friday July 13, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Don was born February 2, 1939 in Aurora, IL. He was a retired Sargent E6 in the United States Airforce with 21 years of service. He was awarded the Airforce Outstanding Unit award, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal as well as five other Airforce awards.
Donald was preceded in death by his son Donald Jr. and grandson Nicholas Thompson.
Donald is survived by his wife of 19 years Gracie Newton; daughter Christy and husband Walter Goodwin; daughter Teresa and husband Mike Steen; son Jimmy and wife Ann Thompson; son Robert and wife Marie Thompson; 9 grandchildren Jessie, Keith, Faith, Hope, Michael, Christopher and Kristen and 2 great granddaughters.
Memorial service will be 10am Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at First Assembly of God, Texarkana, Arkansas with Rev. Fred Calhoun officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of East Funeral Home-Downtown.
