I am so sorry for your loss.  I met Gretchen at the OWATC's cosmetology department when I worked as a receptionist.  Gretchen and I became instant friends and I cherished it!  She was always positive and fun to be with.  I will miss her terribly!

My sister Gretchen was a trooper.  I believe she lived her life with a sadness in her heart.  Troubles in life are certain but Gretchen's portion was excessive.  But she never gave up, she never gave in.  If I am right about her sadness, she offset this with an irrepressible  sense of humor.  She was good and great fun.  And she was loyal and caring.  She had a zest for human contact, for fellowship, for friendship.  She reached out and made friends, enjoying  their company to the max.

Gretchen loved her daughter Melissa and grandson Cooper.  She loved her sisters and brothers -- her twin Miriam and me an older brother, who survive her, and  her sister Jeanne and brothers David and Justin, who predeceased her.

As the two redheaded children in the family, Gretchen and I had a special bond that was reinforced by a shared rebelliousness.  And, after we were grown, I was able to be there for her at several times of special need.  That said, while I deeply loved her, I believe my love fell short of what she deserved, both in terms of her needs and of her strengths.  

Gretchen was a fighter.  She dealt with COPD for many, many years but during the last several the illness impacted the quality of her life with increasing severity.  As far as I know, except for her Texarkana friends, Ted Landrum and Joe Hackett, she dealt with this illness all on her own.  She chose not to burden me or other family members with information about its extent.  It was only from Ted's heartfelt Guest Book entry that we learned about the depth of her struggles and the pain she endured in the last year of her life.

And, so, I'll conclude by joining him in the firm belief that his dear friend and my dear sister is "dancing in heaven now and breathing without a struggle."  Rest in peace, dear sister.

I love Gretchen very much,& she will always be in my heart. She was a very special lady to me & I will never forget her. She was a very courageous, beautiful woman. No matter the situation, she could always put a smile on my face,& in my heart. I miss her very much.

Gretchen and I became good friends when we met at my brother-in-law's funeral 5 years ago.  Since I'm from Ohio we didn't see each other after that but kept in touch.  Gretchen was really a great friend with a lot of wit and spunk!!  Always on the bright side of life.  Rest in peace my friend Gretchen.  Your friend, Velva Bruce

I loved you like a mother and am going to miss you dearly, but I would not bring you back for all the money in the world to see you in pain and struggle like you have been. You were loved by so many. I know your dancing in heaven now and breathing without a struggle. Love ❤ you

Gretchen was my neighbor way back in 1981. It says a lot that I can't really remember any of my other neighbors, but I'll never forget Gretchen and Melissa. Love to you, and peace.

RIP Gretchen. We will miss you here but know that you are in a better place. Love you
