

Darrell was born on August 21, 1940, in Umpire, Arkansas. He married his high school sweetheart, Brenda House, in 1960 and they shared sixty three wonderful years together. Darrell was a graduate of the University of Arkansas pharmacy school and was a diehard razorback fan. He was a successful entrepreneur who partnered to own and operate four pharmacies during the 1970’s and 80’s. Darrell’s devotion to his customers was legendary as he would regularly deliver prescriptions on nights, weekends and holidays for his customers. Darrell also served on the Pleasant Grove ISD school board and was instrumental in the district’s building of the middle school and high school. Darrell was a devoted father to his three children and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Gertie McMellon and his brother Wayne McMellon.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Brenda McMellon; son and daughter-in-law, Marcus and Betsy McMellon; son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Dayna McMellon; daughter, Elizabeth Kuhn; grandchildren, Bailey Woodward (Daniel), Kelsey McMellon, Marta McMellon, Baylee Marryman (Trent), Makinzie Nester (Chase), Garrett McMellon, Griffin Kuhn (Mary), Logan Kuhn (Rebekah), Harley Kuhn, Harrison Kuhn, Rhys Kuhn, Jewel Kuhn; and six great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service for James will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church Atrium, Texarkana, Texas with Rev. Mike Beck officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of East Funeral Home-Moores lane.
