Leo was a good guy, who never met a stranger. 

Leo was the beginning of a 109 fight career for me. He even taught me some words of spanish for my time in Fort Worth so I could talk to the Spanish Ladies
Leo was the pinnical of encouragement. Always upbeat.
I am sure he is busy up there 
in Heaven teaching away...

Leo was a special friend. Had many laughs together. Leo taught me how to box. We were sitting at a bar one night talking boxing. A drunk twice Leo’s size said to Leo. You don’t look tough to me, let’s go outside. Leo said okay. The guy walked to the door. Leo said if I’m not out there in 5 minutes start without me. The drunk mumble something and left. 

 Leo was a kind & nurturing man who was compassionate & nurturing. I remember when I was a child he would call me JT Himself! He was the only presence in my life outside of my maternal grandfather who would lovingly provoke  me. I miss Leo in the same way I miss my grandfather.

I bumped into Leo after not seeing him for a while and asked him what he was doing now. He replied "I am working for the State"...."State unemployment" with a huge grin. I will always remember him in his pink truck and a big grin.

What a wonderful memory video. I know it has been already a year since you have lost Leo but it seems like only yesterday.
Only time can heal and and as time goes on, you will find a time when memories make you smile not feel sad.

Leo was a friend of my entire family as far back as I can remember. He was a mentor and a great listener, he was also a Great Boxing Coach ! Leo always took time to help friends in need of console .. Leo will be missed dearly . Our prayers are with all of you. Sincere Condolences.

  Leo was a fine gentleman. When I was 13 I helped my brother with his paper route. Leo was about 24. I helped collect payment for paper on West 8th Street. Every month Leo would answer the door with a smile. He would gather up change around his home till he came up with enough to not only pay for the paper, but enough to include a tip.
  Over the years as I grew up...Leo and I would cross paths every few years and he always remembered me. He always shared some kind words on those short visits we had. He was always a gracious gentleman.

Meet Leo 1961 when I started training for Golden Gloves. Leo taught me how to box. He taught me how to throw a hard left jab and strong right cross. Remember sparring with Leo many times. Trained at the Marine Reserve Center.  Sgt Graves was in charge of boxing. We became good friends and socialized together. We stayed in contact after I moved to Dallas. Approximately 6 months ago. I sent him some pictures of me riding bulls and articles of Larry Mahan the 8 time World Champion Cowboy. I had been a sales representative for Larry Mahan Cowboy Collection western shirts and boots.  Will miss Leo. He may be gone but not forgotten. Many good memories.

Dear Family,
Leo was my very first coach. He went to the State Golden Gloves tournament with me in 1962. I did not know him so well at that time but he was good enough to get me to the State Finals the next year 1963 and then the state Championship in 1965.
Even though he is not in the bio I am including it is only because I lost touch with him until just a few years ago and did not have any pictures of us.
At the time the article was written by the Texarkana Magazine I mentioned Leo was my first Coach, but they did not get in the article.
Please know that I made contact with Leo 4 years ago and have many memories we shared together and I know Leo will be very busy in Heaven ...first checking on all the former students and then trying to find good talent.
He was the best and to his family and friends know that I loved Leo like a brother.

It's been many years since I last saw Leo, but each time we were always happy to see each other with a smile and hardy handshake.  Many fond memories of Leo that will never be forgotten.  My sincere condolences to the family, Leo was a friend to all and he will be truly missed. Rest in peace.

Leo and I were both stationed together at the radar site out on Rt. 67 just outside Texarkana in the sixties.  
We had a lot of laughs together and I remember Leo as if it were yesterday. I remember that he liked boxing and he was always taking a boxing stance and throwing air punches and saying bip!, bip!………….bip!, bip!, bip!  Then we would all laugh.  Yes, he was quite a guy and a good friend and I’m saddened by his passing.

I have known Leo for 50 years and will miss him calling and stopping by my office to chat. Leo knew everybody and everybody knew him. I can still see him driving around in his pink truck.  It does not seem right that he is not going to be around.

It's been several years since I last saw you, but I will always remember that smile of yours Leo. In all my years working at Fat Jacks back in the day  I could always count on you to great me with that big smile of yours. My sincere condolences to your entire family, you will be missed by all whom knew you including me. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Have known Leo for many years.  He was always a very nice and kind man.  Always had a smile and a gentle chuckle when he had something to say.  Blessings to the family in the loss of Leo.
