Surrounded by her four children, our beautiful Mother, Mary Vann Harris left this earth on January 13, 2025, to be with Jesus, her LORD and Savior & to be reunited with her husband of 71 years. Mary was born on January 19, 1933 in Bonham, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, E. Fred Harris, her parents, James & Audrey Allen, her four brothers, James Allen, Max D Allen, Ben Allen & Joe Allen, her beautiful daughter in law, Patricia Burks Harris and many very special friends.
Mary is survived by her two sons, Rodney F. Harris & Michael R. Harris of Texarkana, AR; two daughters & sons in law, Cathy & Billy Shelton of Texarkana, AR & Judy & Mike Wiles of Huntsville, AL. Mary was blessed with 15 amazing grandchildren, 30 beautiful great grandchildren, 1 very special great great grandchild, countless loving nieces and nephews, in addition to many amazing friends who were more like sisters, brothers, daughters & sons.
Mary Harris could light up any room and brought joy to all those around her. She was such a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, gee-gee and friend. Mary loved children & she was an incredible kindergarten & preschool teacher. Her students loved her almost as much as she loved them. Mary loved music, including, singing, playing the auto-harp and piano! Mary was a poet, a storyteller and a writer. She loved to write stories about her children and grandchildren. Mary could sew, crochet or knit anything. She made a mean and coveted banana pudding. She was self taught in computer skills and more tech savvy than many friends her junior. She loved good movies, books, games and especially playing cards! She loved company. She thrived with a houseful of friends and family or a best friend dropping by for coffee and a visit. But more than anything, Mary was a faithfully devoted, all-in child of the Almighty God! She was a prayer warrior in every sense of the word. She prayed with fervent conviction where sometimes even saying grace was like a revival! She prayed diligently for her children, their children and their children’s children. Mary also Loved the Word!! She read the Word, studied the Word and shared her wisdom with others. Mary shared the gospel and her love for Jesus in words and in her life. She was an incredible example of a godly woman! Mary will be missed by everyone who was blessed to have known her! And oh how blessed we were to have had her for 91 (almost 92) beautiful years.
Memorial service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Church on the Rock 2301 University Ave Texarkana, TX in the Powerhouse space.
