Wesley was born July 24, 1965 to Alfred Penny and Juanita McDowell in San Pedro, California. He was a lifelong resident of Texarkana, Arkansas.
Wesley faithfully attended Shiloh Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and would sing His praises to anyone he met. He found joy in generosity and would think nothing of sacrificing for anyone in need, truly embracing the spirit of Jesus in his generous, selfless giving.
Corporal Penny was an accomplished detective for Miller County Sheriff’s Office, earning numerous awards over the years, most recently receiving Officer of the Year and Hero of Hope awards for his unwavering dedication to his community for over 20 years. He served many years as Fouke City Marshal where he kept the peace and attended hundreds of sporting events cheering on the Panthers. He took great pride in being able to serve his community anytime there was a need, and he had a heart for children, the underdog and for people.
Still, Wesley believed his children were his greatest achievements. Wesley’s five sons were the loves of his life, and he was happiest surrounded by “his boys.”
Wesley was an avid Pepsi drinker and a hopelessly devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. For over ten years he was a fearless Boy Scout leader and enjoyed spending time outdoors in God’s creation.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Penny.
Wesley is survived by his children, Wesley Penny Jr. (Yulia) of Magnolia, Texas, Stephen Brandenburg of Texarkana, Arkansas, Zach Penny (Harmony) of Crossett, Arkansas, Brettan Penny and Bryar Penny of Genoa, Arkansas. Pappy will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Maxim, Viktoria, Kaiden, Braylon, Easton, Abigail, Eli, Brooks, River and Bays. He is also survived by his beloved mother, Juanita McDowell, and siblings Gini Ousley, Gaye Yates (Robert), and Russell Clayton (Denise), as well as a host of nieces, nephews and work family who loved him dearly.
The family would like to thank the community and all of those who have carried them in love and prayers over the past two years. Thank you to the Miller County Sheriff’s Office for honoring his legacy. Your kind words mean more than you know.
A memorial will be held Saturday, May 30 at 2 p.m. at Beech Street Baptist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas under the direction of East Funeral Home-Downtown followed by a celebration of life at Camp Preston Hunt at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to CASA of Texarkana, Caddo Area Council Boy Scouts of America Troop 33, or Shiloh Baptist Church.
