Andrew Schreer was born in Brooklynn, New York and lived in New Jersey for many years before settling in the Houston region after traveling here to look at shopping centers for his group to invest in. Way before that, he was a runner on Wall Street as a teenager, a golf club cady, opened and operated a night club in New Jersey and worked in his father’s family business where he sold structural steel. Some of that steel ended up the World Trade Center. The show business bug had hit him and he got his start at Dangerfield’s in New York City where he was discovered (known as Andy Apple). From there he opened for Tom Jones for almost two years and did other venues along the way. He ended up in the commercial real estate development world in the mid 80’s all the way up until 2023.
Andrew started playing golf at the age of 7 and never stopped. His family belonged to golf clubs in New Jersey. (Hopefully, you got to hear the hilarious Buddy Hacket golf stories he experienced!) He played for his high school and college teams then there were amateur and pro-am tournaments. There were many great courses back east he had the privilege of playing. He and Heather traveled to Scotland to play golf in 2016 at Trump Turnberry, Royal Troon and Prestwick. That same year he played at Pebble Beach with dear friends from New Jersey (and made their way up to Napa!). During his time at previous golf clubs he had joined over the years including Southern Highlands in Las Vegas (Vegas was he and Heather’s happy place), he made lasting friendships along the way. In the game of golf, he was always the “Rules Guy” that came from his years on the rules “board” at clubs in New Jersey. It never left him, nor did his comedic days! He always enjoyed getting to know people, entertaining with jokes and stories, sharing stats on the New York Yankees, Astros, professional golf players and just the game of golf itself.
It all started with Brandy. Heather, at the start, brought to the relationship Brandy, an eight year old, four pound tea cup poodle. Andrew spoiled that girl with left overs mainly from the Palm restaurant. Of course, Brandy ended up his dog for the most part, go figure! When she passed, a friend was fostering a Pomeranian from a rescue and he and Heather adopted. It was from that point that many more rescues were adopted through the years, realizing the importance of being able to offer a chance of a great life instead of animals lingering at shelters with an uncertain futures. Rescues are the best!
Finally landing at Woodforest Golf Club and his forever home with Heather, he knew this was THE club for the rest of his life and it was. He couldn’t say enough about how beautiful the golf course was maintained, how great the food was, or how well the pro shop was stocked and always cherished the new friendships he made.
Andrew is survived by his three pups, Buddy, Izzy and Alfi, his wife Heather, his brother Arny Schreer and sister in law Arianne, niece Cecilia, nephew William, daughter Melissa Donnelly, son in law Keith and grandchildren Ella and Brendan.
