Barbara M. Priest, 86, was born in Eldorado, Texas, to Arthur and Gretchen Mund in 1929, and died peacefully in Conroe, Texas. She was known by her family and friends as “Mimi”. She is survived by her daughters, D-Ann Gilmore (Larry) and Denise Deutsch (Jerry) and two grandchildren, Josh and Hanna Gilmore. Barbara is also survived by sisters Mildred Bigby, Norah Jones and Gretchen Beck, and brother, Kumler Mund, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
During Barbara’s full life, she was a bookkeeper, devoted mother, homemaker, great cook, avid quilter, and quilt shop owner. She was a fiercely loyal woman of God who took her independence very seriously but at the same time was selfless for those she loved. Mimi’s witty personality and sweet spirit were true gifts.
Her passion for quilting was apparent in the quality, quantity, and devotion to her craft. She won numerous awards for quilting, taught countless lessons, and donated many of her quilts to charity. She even replicated a quilt that General Sam Houston’s wife made that was in ill-repair and it is now in the Sam Houston Museum in Huntsville, Texas.
She will be greatly missed by her family, church members, and quilting community in the Houston, Conroe, Huntsville, and Livingston area.
