Brenda Caroll Knight swept into this world on September 28, 1948. Nearly 75 years later, on August 16, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, flew away in her slumber next to her loving husband of 46 years. The two, together, raised two children which she adored dearly.
As a devoted wife and doting mother, Brenda is survived by her husband, Richard; her daughter, Lyndsey with husband Hubert and their foster children; her son, Matthew and wife Kelli and their children Maddison, Bentley, Brynn, and Emma plus her step-granddaughters Kailey and Ashlee.
She has one brother, Tim Martin, and numerous other friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her loving father and mother, Billy and Ruby Martin; her grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles that we all loved dearly.
Brenda graduated high school early at just 16 years of age. Taking courses like shorthand and typing in high school made it possible for her to go to work at Texas Commerce Bank as an accountant. In the evenings, she took courses at U of H downtown.
Sadly, a drunk driver hit her and her then husband killing him and leaving her in a coma, paralyzed, with a broken neck and numerous other injuries which caused lifelong health difficulties. Despite the horrific nature of this senseless wreck and it’s effect on her life, she went on to live a very full life, marrying the love of her life, raising two children, and working alongside her kids as a substitute teacher in Tomball and Magnolia ISD and eventually as a paraprofessional for Magnolia High School.
Growing up, she was always there for her kids whether they needed help with homework or to be shuffled to/from school or extracurricular activities. She instilled the importance of working hard for what you want in life and never giving up. As a mother she was one of a kind and her kids will always cherish all she taught them.
Brenda absolutely loved to take family trips. Some of her favorites included international destinations like Canada, The Netherlands, Belgium, and France, but she also really loved our family retreats to Eureka Springs, Arkansas and Branson, Missouri. What wonderful memories we cherish from all the trips over the years.
But the best memory of all is that of seeing Brenda with her grandchildren who she absolutely adored. When not teaching them how to play cards or dominos, she loved watching them play.
Though cancer and dementia reared up in her latter years, she still enjoyed looking out her window at nature, watching her favorite game shows and polka dancing on tv, doing word searches and posting her favorite memories on Facebook.
She was a strong woman who faced significant challenges in life with such perseverance. She continues to be a source of inspiration to us all and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
