It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Charles Douglas Shannon, a beloved husband, father, and friend, who left us peacefully on July 1, 2025, in Houston, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Doug was born on September 15, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer in New York and made lasting contributions to the chemical manufacturing industry through his expertise and dedication.
In 1982, Doug married the love of his life, Marilyn. Together, they shared a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and adventures. Doug was a devoted husband and their bond served as an inspiration to all who knew them.
He is preceded in death by his sister, mother and father, whose memory he carried with him throughout his life. Doug is lovingly survived by his wife, Marilyn Shannon, as well as his children: Craig Shannon, James (Meghan) Shannon, and Meredith (Spenser) Holcomb. He is also survived by his sister, Lee Ann Driver. His family was his pride and joy, and he took immense pleasure in watching them grow, thrive, and pursue their dreams.
Doug had a zest for life that extended beyond his professional achievements. He was an avid skier, finding joy and exhilaration on the slopes. His love for skiing was not just a hobby but a way to connect with nature and create lasting memories with family and friends. Whether he was carving through fresh powder or sharing a laugh with loved ones at the lodge, those moments were treasures he cherished deeply.
Despite the challenges he faced in life, including his battle with cancer, Doug remained an embodiment of strength and resilience with his wife as his biggest champion. His ability to face adversity with grace and a positive spirit inspired those around him, and his legacy of courage will continue to resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Doug will be profoundly missed by his family and friends. His legacy of love, dedication, and adventure will forever remain in their hearts. May he rest in peace, knowing he made a difference in the world through his kindness, intellect, and warmth.
