Debbie was born on October 25, 1955, in Streator, IL to Eda Eileen Tucker and George Leonoal Pleasant. She was the youngest of three sisters. On May 3, 1975, Debbie married the love of her life, Steven Kennedy, and together they recently celebrated 51 wonderful years of marriage.
Debbie had a servant’s heart and loved giving back to her community in any way she could. She proudly served as an Auxiliary member with the Timber Lakes Volunteer Fire Department, volunteered as an HOA board member, and was known as a caring and dependable neighbor to all who knew her. Above all else, Debbie cherished her family. Her grandson, Zachary, was the light of her life and brought her endless joy and pride, he was her little sunshine.
Debbie was a devoted servant of Christ, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a shining example of grace, compassion, and faith. Throughout her life, she walked closely with God, finding strength in prayer, comfort in Scripture, and purpose in serving others. Her love for the Lord was evident in everything she did, and her life was a testament to unwavering faith.
She touched countless lives through her kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit rooted in Christian love. Whether through quiet acts of service, encouraging words, or steadfast devotion to her family and community, Debbie reflected God’s light to everyone around her.
Though we grieve her passing, we rejoice in the promise found in John 14:2–3 (NKJV): “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
Debbie is survived by her loving husband, Steve Kennedy; her son, Josh Kennedy and wife Kimberly Kennedy, along with their son Zachary; and her other son Nathan Kennedy and wife Maci Kennedy; her mother, Eileen Gerlach; and her sister, Jane Kunkel and husband Alan Kunkel and their kids. Her family will continue to honor her legacy of faith, love, and devotion.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Pleasant; her sister, Barbara Malley; and brother-in-law, Mike Malley.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Chapel in the Woods - Woodlands Church, 1 Fellowship Dr, The Woodlands, TX 77384 on Tuesday May 19th at 11am, where family and friends will gather not to mourn her loss, but to worship, give thanks, and celebrate her life.
“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your lord.’” — Matthew 25:21 (NKJV)
May we all find comfort in God’s grace and in the assurance that one day we will be reunited with Debbie in His eternal kingdom.
In honor of Debbie’s love and support for first responders and children, she requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Timber Lakes Volunteer Fire Department to help support individuals pursuing careers as firefighters and EMTs and/or donations made to the Foster and Adoption Ministry at Woodlands Church to help bring children and families closer to Christ through faith and ministry programs..
