Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 18, 1943, Frank was the son of the late Genevieve and Frank A. Dargavage. He was the cherished brother of Janet Finnell and Judy Donnelly, both preceded him in death, and his surviving sister, Michaline D’Annunzio.
Frank was the beloved husband of Lucretia Dargavage. Together, they shared a devoted and loving marriage, building a blended family that brought joy to both of their lives. He was a proud father to his four children: Lisa Anne (preceded in death), Francis Dargavage Jr. (Angela), Joseph Dargavage, and Michelle Lawrence (Chris). Through his marriage to Lucretia, he lovingly embraced her children as his own: Brandi Melton (Dean) and Blake Mitchell (preceded in death).
He was blessed with many beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry forward his legacy with gratitude and love.
Frank lived an extraordinary life. At just 18 years old, he joined the United States Air Force, serving honorably in Vietnam. His service took him around the world, and he returned home a decorated Major. Following his military career, he became a successful pilot for Continental Airlines and later served as Chief Pilot for Continental Micronesia. For a time, he also shared his knowledge as an economics instructor, inspiring others with his discipline, perspective, and curiosity. He was proud of all his high accomplishments but often shared that it was the “small” things in life that were truly grand - a reflection of his humble heart and deep gratitude for life’s simple blessings.
Beyond his distinguished professional life, Frank had many passions. He loved the game of golf, the beauty and freedom of the ocean, and cheering for his beloved Philadelphia Eagles - often with a story or memory to share. A proud Philadelphian with deep Polish roots, he never passed up a good golumpki, pierogi, or a classic Philly cheesesteak. More than anything, Frank was a man of deep faith. He shared scripture and words of wisdom daily, with his steadfast belief in Jesus Christ as his foundation. His life verse was Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord.
Frank’s warmth, wisdom, and faith will be deeply missed, but his family takes comfort in the promise of reunion one day. In accordance with his wishes, Frank will be laid to rest with full honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
We celebrate his remarkable life and the love he poured into his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
