He is also survived by numerous cousins. Geoff was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Frances Curtin; his brothers Gregory and Michael; and his grandson Reed Curtin.
Geoff was born on December 6, 1940, in The Bronx, New York, and lived there until he was eight years old before moving to New Jersey, where he finished his childhood years and graduated from high school. He attended and received his college diploma from Seton Hall University, where he was in the ROTC. After graduation, Geoff joined the Army and relocated the Germany with his wife, Judi, and sons Geoff and Jim, for the next 4 years. Upon completion of his service to our country, the family returned to the United States and settled in New Jersey. This is where they welcomed another son, Mike, and Geoff began his career at Shell Oil Company. Shell transferred Geoff to Houston, where their long-awaited daughter Beth was born and where they resided for over 25 years.
Geoff loved all sports, but his passion was baseball. He instilled a strong love of sports in his children, coaching baseball and basketball for many years and earning a reputation for being tough but fair. His coaching left lasting memories and stories of “Coach Curtin” or "Mr. C" that are still being told today.
Geoff was immensely proud of all his children and frequently spoke of their achievements with pride. He took particular pride in his son Mike, who followed him with a successful career at Shell. Geoff had a long and distinguished career with Shell, where he excelled at running operations at the Information Center in Houston. During his career Geoff mentored many individuals who credit him with their own success. He was also known and respected for his fairness and toughness. Those who worked with him admired him greatly.
Shell later relocated Geoff to New Orleans, where he embraced the city's culture and enjoyed hosting family visits, enthusiastically sharing all New Orleans has to offer. It was in New Orleans where Geoff met and married Patrice, his wife of the past 25 years. Unfortunately, Hurricane Katrina forced them to leave New Orleans, leading them to settle in Richmond, VA, where they lived until Geoff's passing.
Geoff was proud of his legacy and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Geoff was also very proud of the rescue operation that his daughter in law and son established in Ambergris Caye, Belize to handle emergency situations for residents and tourists.
