Georgia Mae Weston was born on August 28, 1925 in Kenedy, Texas, to her parents, John Reuben Weston and Maggie Calvert Weston. Her father passed away when she was 12 years old. Georgia grew up in the Great Depression of the 1930’s, picking cotton, and receiving only one new dress a year that her mother made and one new pair of shoes. She graduated from HS in Runge, Texas, and after graduation went to work at the bank in Kenedy.
She met her husband-to-be at the restaurant in Kenedy where she ate breakfast every morning. He immediately sat down beside her and four months later they were married May 11, 1946. She moved with her husband, Shelby Anderson Meadows, Sr. (Sam), to South Texas, South Louisiana, and later with their son to Edmonton, Canada.
Sam’s work with geophysical crews brought them to Calgary and Montana. In 1954 the family returned to Texas settling in the Houston Heights area. A year later, they moved to Timbergrove subdivision in Houston where they lived until 1981. While living there Georgia worked for Travelers Insurance Company. They ultimately settled in Spring, Texas, next to the Woodlands. The couple was married for 59 years, until Sam died in April of 2005.
Georgia attended Woodland Oaks Church of Christ participating in bible studies. When she could not attend in person, she watched services over the internet. Her church family visited Georgia at home frequently, bringing her tokens of their affection, such as home-made quilts and tasty treats.
Cooking, bridge, skeet shooting, and dancing were some of the activities she enjoyed. But, Georgia’s main focus of being a good mother to her son and partner to her husband gave her the most satisfaction.
She is described by her loved ones as intelligent, strong of body, will, and spirit, devoted, steadfast, and giving. Even at age 94 she was admired for her “porcelain” skin.
In Georgia’s later years she was cared for by Linda Full, until Linda had to return to West Virginia to care for her daughter who became ill. The past two years Ms. Meadows was cared for by Estella Moreno, her daughter Teresa Moreno, their extended family, and co-workers. All the caregivers became very close to her.
Georgia lived a full life. She passed the morning of December 17, 2019, at VITAS nursing home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be sent to Woodland Oaks Church of Christ or the Salvation Army.
Ms. Meadows is survived by her son, Shelby Anderson Meadows, Jr. of Buckhorn, Texas, two grandchildren, Megan (Meadows) Russ of Kerrville, Texas, and Shelby A. Meadows III (Andy) of Little Elm, Texas, and five great grandchildren: Riley, Rowan, and Riggs Russ; Kaley and Anderson Meadows.
She will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
