Georgia Lee Rockhold was born on July 8, 1936 in San Antonio, Texas, welcomed by her parents Russell George (R.G.) Floyd, Jr. and Amzie Lee Margaret Fikes.
In 1954, Georgia graduated from Milby High School in Houston, Texas. She married Harold H. Sheffield that same year. They had two daughters, Connie Elizabeth Rawlinson and Dixie Lee Williams before their marriage ended in the mid 1970's.
An avid reader, Georgia worked in various libraries over the years; corporate, church and county. From there she went to work for Exxon, retiring in 1992.
Georgia and Glenn "Rocky" Rockhold, the love of her life, married September 11, 1976. They square danced with the Stomping Saints for 18 years. Georgia and Rocky shared a love of travel with their two favorite places being Israel and Russia. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on September 11, 2001, the day America was attacked, while on a cruise to Russia. Georgia frequently remarked about the outpouring of love and support for all of the Americans onboard. Preparing for retirement, Georgia and Rocky realized their dream of building a log house on Canyon Lake. A labor of love, Rocky built much of their home with his own two hands while Georgia turned the house into a loving home with her personal touch and they shared many wonderful years together there.
A longtime member of First Baptist Church in New Braunfels, Georgia was part of the handbell choir for ten years, worked in the church library and was a member of the senior choir, The Sunshine Singers.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband Rocky, her parents, her daughters Connie and Dixie, her grandson Bradley Rawlinson, and her pre-deceased great-grandson, Jack Brian Rockhold.
Surviving members of her blended family include Cliff and Peggy Rockhold, Jeff and Pam Rockhold, Faye Turachak and Brian Fenton, Joe Wayne Williams; grandchildren: Joseph and Margaret Rockhold, Daniel and Jewell Rockhold, Jeremy and Naomi Rockhold, Brian and Alyson Rockhold, Amy and Bobby Galvan; great-grandchildren: Rosalyn Rockhold, Greyson and Christian Rockhold, Jesi and Jimi Rawlinson and Olivia and Gabriela Galvan as well as several cousins and friends.
Georgia was a true Texas gentlewoman, strong in her faith, elegant and kind to everyone she knew.
On Sunday, July 23, 2023, one year to the day of her beloved Dixie's journey to her heavenly home, Georgia joined her. Though her family and friends miss her, we rejoice in knowing that Georgia is reunited with those she loved so much.
