Last several months have been laced with sadness and a longing to see you
November, December, and January are a series of very difficult months for me

I need to try grief counseling and reconnect with my friends that I once saw every week
Upon death one’s earthly presence seem to be swept away.  I have your writings., shoes, and your gray robe   And I recall conversations that I now treasure 
I have faith that I we will be together again …one day 
Harley is horribly spoiled.  Totally my “doing”
She is so dang smart    She has lost weight as I have her on a low carb diet and she is taking pills for hypothyroidism 
What a difference in her energy after just a few weeks on thyroid meds.  She throws toys up in the air and can often catch them
I love her and think it is mutual
Pray you have found peace    Know Beckett and Romeo must be with you once again.  I miss them terribly but as well.  Too many losses

We take the opportunity to remember you Alan.  Even though my wife never had the opportunity to meet you she loves listening to the times we spent together and what an incredible friend and person you were to me and more importantly to everyone you met.  It was such a short time we spent together but one that made a lasting impact on me.

As we approach the fourth year since Alan’s death, there are days when it seems like yesterday

I long to speak to him, see him, hear his car pull up in front of our house 

The state of longing impedes the journey to peace and acceptance 

 However, a mother NEVER recovers from the lose of a son or daughter 

I now understand that grief will forever be present in my life

I continue to get “hits” of sorrow, melancholy  everyday

The intensity has subsided somewhat, but nonetheless, it continues to pose a challenge to move through the darkness and sorrow 

I simply can’t make peace with my life missing my only son 

I have been isolating but no longer in bed for most of the day 

Harley has been ill recently but recovers n a day or two.   Several months ago Harley had surgery for a mast cell tumor.  Surgery was successful and vet was able to get clear margins   It is an allergic immune response to something as simple as pollen!

I simply cannot lose her.  We have lost four dogs in past 5-6 yrs
Harley is so smart    Her tail, eyes, ears reveal her disposition

Alan! I’m so sorry that I wasn’t a better friend to you! It breaks my heart to learn of your passing. I met you in 2000 and we stayed in touch off and on up until 2019.  I looked you up to see if we could get back in touch and reconnect, only to find out that I’ve missed my chance! I’m very sad! It took me a week to wacth your funeral, and I cried so hard. You were so sweet and genuine! I’ll never forget our conversations or our friendship!  Your love of motorcycles, your dogs, your ideas on string theory! I hope we’ll meet again someday my friend! The world has truly lost a wonderful person! They’ll never know how the world could be a better place with you here!  All they will notice is the wind blowing and be oblivious to the true nature of such a loss!!! We talked about things like this. I love you forever and to no end! Our relationship is infinite!

You and your family were on my mind yesterday and in the midst of the chaos I didn't get to say something on here.  Three years have flown by and when I think about you I still have to grapple with the reality that you're in Heaven.  I've been reading books about Heaven to help me stay focused on the promise of seeing my loved ones again and it is a beautiful thing to think that you got to meet Jesus already.  I know it is us on Earth that are sorrowful thinking of our loved ones even knowing that Heaven is real - but that is what happens when you love someone, you can't help but miss their presence.  It had been years since I'd seen you last, but it feels like yesterday at the same time and I will always cherish your family.  You're thought of frequently by me and I know by many others.  You made an impact on many, many lives.

You transitioned “beyond the veil” on Nov 22, 2020 , though the official date of death is Nov 23, 2020   Nearing three years.  Still feels so fresh 
For years I feared getting “that call”.   We followed the current “wisdom” at the time and you willingly? went  to your first rehab   Know today that was a mistake
Today. I would encourage a  different path to sobriety.    Yes hindsight gives one space to consider treatments “outside of the box”. I carry the love, grief, the  longing to see you everyday   I know I will see you again but I prayed that you would beat this dark disease and turn your life around    You were never defined by addiction.  We lose more  than 100 Americans to overdose deaths everyday.  Yet, this epidemic is not receiving the exposure, attention, funds  it demands to end the endless days of grief following  this tragic loss 
I love you Alan.  We are taking care of Harley.  She does give me a modicum of peace, serenity as I know you love her.  We love her as well. It is something that had  grown to be a part of you   Know she misses you as she stands by the garage door thinking you might be there.  I open the door and you are not there.  She joins your dad  nearly everyday in the bathroom.  Know she must have been with you on the “potty”.   She races into the half bath to be with your dad    She continues to remember you, miss you

I I would run into him a lot throughout my career a lot of the times it was by chance.

We were good friends and I miss joking around with him.

I went down memory lane today. It’s been two years since you’ve passed and undoubtedly the world has changed. It’s still so strange to me that you’ve gone on to Heaven, even though we didn’t communicate often anymore.  And I can’t fathom the grief and loss your family feels for you every day.  

You had so many gifts and talents, and a darn handsome smile. It makes me sad to think of all that this world will never know from you but I know Heaven is real and we’re promised that. I’m sure you’re loving on Romeo & Beckett and living with no pain, restored to perfect health and peace.  I think of you and your precious family so often. XOXO

Alan's grave has been robbed two times.  

One item, a heart firmly affixed to the granite grave plaque, is characteristic of a hateful, emotionally revengeful act, as it took a lot of force to "remove". it.  It never just "fell" off.  Other items taken  were in excellent condition.  Second time perfectly fine item stolen from the grave.

Funeral parlor manager claims they have never received reports of grave robberies. Yeah, who does that?

We are filing police reports.  We have a "person of interest".

It's been 3 months, and I still struggled to grasp that you're gone.

I know that we hadn't truly connected in 8 years but in 8 years we stayed in touch in many ways.  I reached out to you about random things like crawfish nachos or a Doppelgänger on Hallmark that looked just like you.  You reached out about Mammaw and sometimes just about life.  We crossed paths so young and shared so much, that even though we spent so many years separated I still struggle to process that you're no longer here.  You're somewhere better.  Much better.  Better beyond our wildest dreams.

I find myself now thinking about you daily, and questioning why, what's the point, what if, and when.  All of the things we naturally think about as fleshly humans.

Meanwhile, I also think about your parents and your sisters, and your nieces and nephew, and all of the family.  Ironic that life never presents us with the moments to TRULY appreciate what we have until it's gone.  That's in every which way possible of course.

I remember your comments about life, prosperity, and ambition.
I remember your comments about family, their love and loyalty.
I remember your comments about the future, the what ifs and the even ifs.
I remember your smile, your eyes, your voice.
I remember it all.

  It sucks to see you go. I know you struggled. I'm glad my last memories i have of you were good ones. I always thought you were brilliant, typing away, figuring out coding and programs way beyond my grasp. I remember taking an uber with you all the way from Houston to The Woodlands to see your parents. My condolences go out to them... Addiction is tough and some of us can't get through it. I'm sorry you lost your life to this terrible affliction.  You will be missed! I hope you are resting now... the fight is over.

My family was blessed to have lived across the street from Alan while he was a child.  We lived at the end of the street and his sisters and him ran thru  our doors as much as my own children.  He was always laughing and smiling, and entertaining those around him.  He was a gentle heart and an old soul.... he is my prayers and will be missed!

I’m so saddened by the loss of your son and dear friend of mine. Even though Alan and I hadn’t seen each other in several years I always felt connected with him based on our friendship. I met Alan shortly after moving to Houston while working with Rebecca. It didn’t take long for us to find common interests in sports and enjoying each others company. Watching countless NFL games and staying up late watching sophomoric comedies were our specialities. We got along like peas and carrots.  I still remember like yesterday Alan and I picked up a few games of sand volleyball in town. We crushed it with our team work and dedication to winning.  He will be forever missed and I will hold those special memories close to my heart. I love you Alan, may you Rest In Peace brother.

Hank and Sherry, there are no words to express how sorry I am for your loss, and how much I deeply admire you for being open about your Son’s struggles. I am thinking of you all during this unimaginably difficult time.

Hank Alan Reuser was my best friend and brother for almost 30 years.  We met through a mutual friend and never looked back.  Alan was the kind of guy who easily made friends and most everyone liked him.  He had a keen business mind and was always a hard worker, even at a young age.  Most importantly he had a great sense of humor.  

I remember one time shortly after I began driving that we went to see a movie.  We had no idea what we wanted to see, or what was even showing, but we didn’t need a ride from our parents and we were going.  He said he had seen a preview for “She’s All That,” and said it was a party movie that looked cool.  It could have been me that said that but for the sake of argument let’s say it was him.  We bought our tickets and hustled in.  About 45 minutes into the movie we looked at each other, said nothing, and turned back to the movie.  When we were walking back to my car after the movie we laughed and one of us said “Not a word,” and the other said “agreed.”  I still laugh every time that movie comes on tv.  

My condolences to you, Hank and Sherry.  You were wonderful parents who raised a great son.  While he struggled heavily with substance abuse later in life, the core of his heart was good.  I will always remember him as the man he was before his struggles.

Alan, that summer day when you and Cody and I played on Uncle Frank's land (I think we were all about 10 years old) and we went tubing down the river is still such a strong memory for me. I was nervous, (as I usually was at trying something new) but you inspired trust in me, and I wanted to follow your lead - so I took that tube and went in after you. Your energy and enthusiasm made the day an adventure - the kind you remember later in life as part of those golden childhood summers.  Though your energy and charm may have passed from this world, it will live in our hearts and our memories. 

Alan will be missed, but he will not be forgotten.

I had the pleasure of knowing Alan his whole life.  Living across the street as children and then later in adulthood.  Alan could entertain a crowd out of the womb.  As a small child he would come over to our house daily and no matter who was there he could charm them into playing with him.  He lit up the room in a way that could not be imitated.  Alan was 10 years younger than me so I was in my teen years then and annoyed with most things.  But Alan had a way of making you smile and forgetting  your worries.  I always stayed friends with his oldest sister so I got to see him on and off thru the years.  As an adult Alan would meet us out and come to our Halloween parties occasionally and he never stopped being that same genuine person who talked to everyone around as if they were the most interesting person in the room.   He will always be in my thought and prayers.... my family was blessed by his presence in our lives.  

Just spoke with Alan a few weeks ago. We had made plans to have lunch. I remember Alan as Uncle Popeye to Maryn. When he set his mind to something Alan was unstoppable. I remember years ago Alan saying he was going to get in better shape. As Alan did, he went all in. Bought a food scale, worked out all the time and in no time flat he look as if Michelangelo had sculpted him out of marble. 
While living in the Austin area I was Dx with cancer and received treatment at MD Anderson in Houston. Alan, bought a bed and TV for his down stairs bedroom and invited me to stay with him during my tests and treatments. That is who Alan was. Such a big heart and gentle soul under all of those ripped muscles. 
I pray for the family to find comfort and for Alan’s soul to be at rest. Blessing to all.

My deepest condolences go out to the family of Alan. 

I first met Alan when he started dating my best friend Rebecca many years ago. I have so many funny memories of Alan but the funniest would have to be the time I had Rebecca and Alan be my guests to my company Christmas party which was held at the Westin in the Galleria. Great food, awesome music, open bar.  The CEO of the bank in which I worked for was known to do a solo dance every year....welp....every year other than this one in particular. Not long into his performance Alan felt the need to show him how it's done. Alan confidently walked out into the middle of the dance floor, through the crowd huddled around the CEO, motioned for everyone to step back and began doing the caterpillar across the dance floor stealing the CEO’s thunder!!!! The crowd loved Alan’s moves and cheered him on. The CEO even gave him a pat on the back and told him he’d have to teach him how to do that!

You will be greatly missed Alan. I will forever treasure all of the laughs and moments we shared.  

Uncle Hank and Auntie Sherry, we are so sorry for your loss.  Addictions and Mental Health are too often looked upon with a negative lens, but people need to remove the stigma and fell free to openly discuss these issues without retribution.  These are terrible times and I hope you and the family are doing ok to battle through this.  Thinking of you and wishing all of our best.

What a beautiful and courageous sentiment about Hank.  We loved having him a part of our group at the Post Oak club and he brought so much to the table.  I was crushed to hear this news.  Sending healing thoughts to your family.  

Alan was a bright, inquisitive and happy little boy.  I remember at the age of three he told me he wanted to be a paleontologist. Such a big word for a little guy. He was a golden child. Alan, your loss is such a shock. To all of your family, I send my heartfelt condolences and just so saddened by your loss. I just can’t imagine.  What a year 2020 has been.  :(

Unfortunately, Alan and I lost touch years ago, but every time I drive through Houston I still think of him. I met Alan probably 15 years ago and he was just such a kind and sensitive soul. I remember staying at his place for the weekend, grilling, and we had the time of our lives gambling on seemingly every NFL game that Sunday together. I remember his love of cars and BMW, how excited he was to buy a season pass to the new racetrack in Austin, even offering me his seats I believe opening weekend as he couldn’t make it. I remember him coming to some of my poker parties and my bachelor party. He made a name for himself that night around 3am in the pool when no one could go up and back twice underwater. Someone offered $100 if anyone could do it, it was going to be absolutely impossible, and sure enough Alan shocked the whole party and pulled it off.  I remember his unbelievably perfect haircuts and I am not sure I ever told him, but a couple of times I showed the person cutting my hair his picture and said I want it just like that!  Although we stayed in touch for several years, I just cannot remember the addiction, rehab, or having the problems he clearly had. I wish I would have known or just wish there was some way I could have helped. You were taken far too soon my friend and you will be missed by so many. 

Our prayers and condolences are with you at this time. Losing our 19-year-old son, we definitely know the pain of losing a child. Lamar and I are here for you at any time, please let us know what we can do for you.

I am so happy that our paths crossed and it was an absolute  pleasure knowing you!  It wasn't by chance, God made sure our paths crossed.  I was honored when you asked me to sponsor you and enjoyed helping you through this journey called life. My name is Khloe. I was one of the many people who had the pleasure of knowing/ caring for Hank. Hank knew I hated the mornings lol and I always was so shocked to see him at the nurses station at 6:30 a.m. He would laugh with me and make me cups of coffee from his room. He drank only the best(Starbucks) lol. I watched Hank grow and became healthy and happy. I watched him laugh with his dad and sit on the porch and talk with his mom on the phone. Hank was and is a beautiful soul. I’ve detoxed many people but Hank was special and I could see the desire in him to live and to be healthy. I hold on to that. I remember the good times when he would couch me on how to lose these stubborn 15lbs and how we would drink sugar free energy drinks because they had fewer calories lol. Oh Hank will definitely be missed. Thank you to both his parents for trusting us with his care. Love Khloe. 

I met Alan about 23 years ago when he was in high school. We met on the IRC in a local chat room and struck up a friendship around our interest in computers. He was only 15 at the time but exuded a maturity beyond his years. We spent much time tinkering with technology and growing up together. We fell out of touch when I moved out of state but reconnected last year. Alan was the kind of friend you could pick up with right where you left off as if no time had passed, the type of friend who would go out of his way to help you and make you want to do the same for him.

In our last meeting, he stated how important it was to spend time with his family and how he tried to visit every weekend. He talked about family, and its importance in his life, more than any other topic. That really struck me at the time.

Alan will be missed but never forgotten and live on in the fond memories of all the lives he touched.

Alan, you were a unique gift in my life and a major part of my story.  You had a handsome smile and beautiful blue eyes.  You were wickedly savvy with computers and ahead of your time in your career.  You could ski backwards down a mountain as if you were on the hockey rink.  You loved sports and were oddly great at winning in fantasy football leagues.  You had silly dance moves we jokingly referred to as the wiggle worm and sometimes did the caterpillar, but you never held back from dancing.  You loved your family and admired your parents so much.  You loved spending time with friends and always made sure everyone was having a good time.  Crawfish & diablo shrimp will forever make me think of you.  No matter what happened you have always asked about my grandmother.  I cannot believe you're gone.  It doesn't feel real.  You will be missed, but I will see you again in Heaven.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your precious Hank. I talked with him in morning meetings over the last year or so...he was a sweet soul and will be greatly missed.

I am deeply saddened to learn of this great loss! I met Alan at Global Healthcare 15 years ago where he was serving as IT Manager, which I questioned initially given his young age.  Alan quickly proved his ability professionally as the project progressed and  I have many fond memories working with him over the years. I have always been honored to count him as a friend no matter how much distance and time passed between us, and now I'm remorseful that so much time had passed since our last encounter. 

 Peace be with your family at this time of great loss and know there are many who will cherish fond memories of Alan from now on.

I met Alan about 15 years ago where he was a Manager at Global Healthcare myself and the other IT contractors became friends with him and were impressed with his intelligence and great sense of humor.  I kept running into Alan many times in my career and he got me 2 of my jobs.  I would meet him from time to time at Dynamo games and such.  

I feel this is a great loss and I am crushed because of it, I was looking forward to many future collaborations with him but now I feel loss.



On behalf of myself and my Wife Rebecca we would like to pass on our deepest condolences to the whole family on your recent loss of Alan. I first met Hank (as he liked me to call him) in 2013 when I stayed with him whilst I was a soccer coach with the Houston Dynamo.  I have amazing memories of Hank and the dogs at the time Romeo and Beckett.  I ended up converting him into a soccer fan.  My first memory was Hank introducing me to NFL, Rumplemints and Crawfish.  He was always going out of his way for people.  Hank took care of me and introduced me to many of his great friends such as Brett and we created a strong friendship bond over the years.  I will always be grateful to him for his amazing hospitality towards me and I will always miss him.   Lots of Love Jess and Rebecca from New Zealand.
