Henry Wayne Parker of The Woodlands, Texas left this earth on June 8, 2024 at the age of 91. His infectious smile will forever flash in our memories as we remember his kind heart and beautiful soul. Wayne, also known as Hank to his many friends and coworkers, was born to John Byron and Ruth Edith (Quick) Parker on October 29, 1932. He was a long-time resident of Austin, Texas.
Wayne’s natural curiosity began in his youth in Marshall, Texas. He grew up on a dairy farm in Marshall and later attended East Texas Baptist College and Texas Christian University before pausing his studies to enlist in the U.S. Air Force in 1952. After an honorable discharge in 1956, he enrolled at Arlington State College and later Southern Methodist University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree with Highest Honors and also his Master’s degree, both in Electrical Engineering.
Wayne met his beloved bride of 64 years, Rebecca (Becky) Pettigrew Parker, on a blind date set up by mutual friends in Dallas, Texas, and they later married on January 16, 1960. He began his professional career at Texas Instruments (TI) in Dallas, working in research and design. After starting a family in Richardson, Texas and progressing through multiple roles at TI, he transferred and moved his family to Austin in 1970. Wayne later continued his career at Spenco Systems, Inc., where he was involved in pioneering the development of the first self-service gasoline pumps, including pay-at-the-pump devices. He retired from GE subsidiary, Dresser Industries, but he was always involved in his passion, electrical engineering. He was fiercely independent, constantly pursuing the latest and greatest technology, and his thirst for reading and knowledge never ceased.
Wayne and Becky moved to The Woodlands in 2021, where they began a new life at The Forum Retirement Community with a circle of friends who became like family. He touched so many lives and he was touched by so many of the wonderful residents, aides, therapists, nurses, staff and others. The outpouring of love and support has been a testament to the man he was. He was truly happy and vibrant, living life to its fullest. We will miss him beyond comprehension.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Becky, and his two children, Douglas (Doug) Parker and wife Kim of Leander, and Ann Gallaway and husband Michael of The Woodlands. He is also survived by three grandchildren whom he adored: Kathryn Parker, Elizabeth Gallaway and Andrew Parker and wife Haleigh. Wayne is also survived by his brother Byron A. (Andy) Parker. Wayne was preceded in death by his mother and father, and brothers John Byron Parker, Jr., Glenn Parker and Philip (Phil) Parker. Wayne was an incredible animal-lover and he also leaves behind his dear cat, Ivy, his precious and constant companion of many years.
