On April 16, 2025, after 78 years of life and a very brief illness, Jack McCabe departed this world. One of three boys, Jack was born to John Miller McCabe and Ruth Hood McCabe in 1946 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Jack grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania and Alliance, Ohio. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, a Master’s Degree in Business from National University in San Diego, and a Master’s in Public Health from Trinity University in San Antonio. He spent approximately 35 years enjoying success in his chosen field of hospital administration. Jack was the CEO of Harris Methodist HEB in Hurst, Texas, and later, the CEO of Christus Saint Catherine Hospital in Katy, Texas. A long-time resident of The Woodlands, Texas, he loved music, antique autos, cooking, art, reading, and serving his community; but nothing compared to the love he had for his family.
A fateful turn in Jack’s journey came in 1970, working with the Red Cross during the Vietnam War. In the midst of war-torn South Vietnam, Jack met a young co-worker named Carol Geele. What began as a chance meeting in Vietnam blossomed into a lifelong love. They married and Carol became his steadfast partner in every adventure that followed. They embarked on a journey that spanned continents, carrying their devotion with them wherever they went.
For Carol and Jack, home was wherever they were together. Their life together was an adventure across the globe: they lived under the cherry blossoms of Japan and among the historic villages of Germany, before returning stateside to plant roots in San Diego, then San Antonio, and later Bedford in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Ultimately, they settled in The Woodlands, Texas, bringing with them a world of experiences and friendships from every chapter of their journey. In each new place, Jack built lasting relationships and left an indelible mark of kindness and leadership.
In every community along the way, Jack served as a guiding presence. He had a way of remembering every face and every story, making each person he met feel valued. Even those who hadn’t seen him in decades would light up upon hearing his name, recalling the generosity and steadfast moral compass that defined him. Jack’s character was exceptional in every sense—he led by example with quiet strength and wise foresight, always thinking ahead for the benefit of others. Widely respected by all who met him or heard of his deeds, he was often the person people turned to in times of need. His enduring impact on everyone who knew him is evident in the countless lives he touched over the years.
He poured his love and energy into his family every day. Jack was the quiet hero of every family story. He relished every moment of being a father and grandfather. He was the very foundation of the McCabe family – their planner, their protector, and their guiding light. He taught by example how to live with generosity and purpose, and his devotion to his family was evident in even the smallest daily gestures.
He was preceded in death by his brother Jim, a proud war veteran whom Jack admired deeply. He is survived by his brother Tom, who recently retired after 50 years working in an Ohio steel mill – a testament to the sturdy, hardworking roots from which Jack came. Above all, Jack leaves behind Carol, his wife of over fifty years, their son Jeff, daughter-in-law Krissy, and four treasured grandchildren: Penny, Jade, Eve and Easton.
For all who knew and loved him, Jack’s passing leaves an empty space that can never be filled, but also, a lifetime of memories to cherish. Jack’s legacy is one of love, strength, foresight, and unwavering commitment to family and community. His presence will be deeply missed, but the light of his spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of those he touched. His memory will endure in everyone who was fortunate enough to know him, echoing in our hearts and minds as a constant reminder of a life exceptionally well lived.
“You will never have enough time.”
- Jack McCabe
