He was born in Olyphant, Pennsylvania on September 16, 1935, to Joseph and Catherine Meehan. John graduated from St. Patrick’s High School and, after serving in the United States Army, received a bachelor degree from the University of Baltimore.
John had a career in Oil & Gas Tax Accounting for ExxonMobil Corporation and retired in 1992.
John was an active volunteer in Little League Baseball serving first as a two term President of Aldine Little League and later as an umpire with a notoriously low strike zone.
A proud veteran and lifelong Catholic, he was a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus. John had a passion for music and singing that he pursued as a member of various choirs and choral groups. In his own words, “I’m the son of a saloon musician and a product of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I took a hiatus from music for 30 years to serve my country, raise two sons, and do the bidding of Big Oil. Then there ensued another 30 years segment that found me auditioning my way into choirs and choral groups.”
Later in life, John took up ballroom dancing and met the love of his life Josephine Cloud his loving companion for two decades until her passing on December 26, 2009.
John was preceded in death by his brothers James Meehan and Marty Meehan and his sisters Rita Fontini and Mary Brogan.
He was survived by his sons James (Kristi) Meehan and David Meehan, by his grandchildren Stephanie Meehan and Mia Meehan, and by his brother Joseph Meehan.
