He obtained a degree in Business Management which led him to Texas to work in Management at Kroger and later, Conn's. John's personality, organizational skills, and fairness would cause many of his employees to see him as a personal example and mentor.

The love of music was in John from childhood. He played the piano, clarinet, and all saxophones...his favorite was alto sax. He instilled the love of music into his children, and was a vital component of the music influence of the family. In 1984, his church hosted the Winans, and John was one of the performing musicians. He saw music as a force that could minister, calm, comfort and motivate. John touched many lives through musicianship and by simply sharing the love of music with all he encountered.
He will always be remembered for keeping an open phone line for anyone who needed an ear, his wise council, and many different sayings. One of his favorite sayings was "Good, Better, Best...Never let it rest until your good is better and your better is best." We will cherish all the spiritual guidance, direction, and wisdom he has given over the years. John will be deeply missed.
