Luc, a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, was born in Andover, Massachusetts, and moved with his family to The Woodlands in 2001. He attended The Woodlands High School, where he was in his Junior year. Luc had been a member of The Woodlands High School Triathlon Team, and competed in numerous races including the CB&I Woodlands Triathlon. He twice completed the Austin LIVESTRONG half marathon in 2011 and 2012. Luc also earned a Black Belt in TaeKwanDo.
Luc loved to travel. During the summer of 2012 he toured with a group of high school students from The Woodlands and New York state to Italy, Turkey and Greece. While Luc marveled at the ancient ruins, artwork and historic churches he visited, Luc talked most about the close friends he made on his trip -- which was Luc's way. Known for his ever-present smile and ironic sense of humor, Luc valued his relationships above all else.
Luc was a member of The Woodlands United Methodist Church. Luc had a heart for serving the poor, and was a member of several mission teams to Costa Rica -- a country whose people he truly loved. In 2011 he hiked with a team including his father and older brother to the Chirripo Indigenous Reservation deep inside the Costa Rican rainforest to help rebuild a church and tend to the medical needs of the Sinoli Indigenous Community. After spending the week serving God and making friends with the Sinoli people, upon exiting the rainforest after the difficult all day hike back to Tuis, Luc's first question was "when can we return." The experience was a highlight of his life.
Luc was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Catherine DeVeau, with whom he is now reunited. Luc is survived by his parents, David and Melissa DeVeau, his older brother Ross, and younger sister Maddie, his paternal grandfather Conrad C. DeVeau of Haverhill Massachusetts, his maternal grandparents Dr. and Mrs. William Boisselle of Hartford, Alabama, as well as many other family and friends, all of whom miss him dearly.
A celebration of Luc's life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 27, 2012 in the Sanctuary of The Woodlands United Methodist Church, 2200 Lake Woodlands Drive, The Woodlands, Texas, 77380.
In honor of Luc's life and his passion for service, an endowment fund has been established to help fund student missions in perpetuity. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Luc to The Woodlands United Methodist Church Foundation designated for The Luc William DeVeau Endowment Fund, 2200 Lake Woodlands Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77380 or www.thewoodlandsumc.org/foundation
