

Luis was born to the late Aurelio and Isabel Marti Silva in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico on June 20, 1930. He spent most of his childhood in his native Puerto Rico. He joined the U.S. Army in January of 1951 and spent the next twenty-eight and a half years honorably serving his country. Luis was a veteran of the Vietnam war. He was last stationed in Ft. Huachuca, AZ and retired there on July, 31 of 1979 at the rank of Sergeant Major. After retiring, he continued his career in the Civilian Personnel Office with the US Army at Fort Bliss, Texas.
Throughout his career, Luis was recognized for his outstanding service. He was awarded The Legion of Merit, The Meritorious Service Medal, The Bronze Star Medal for his service in Vietnam, and The Commander’s Award for Civilian Service as well as many other awards.
While on his first tour of duty in Germany, he met his future wife Lilly Wieden. They married in 1959 and had three sons. During his military career, the family lived in Columbus, Georgia; Nuremburg, Germany; El Paso, Texas and Stuttgart, Germany.
Luis’ passion was sports, specifically baseball. He grew up playing baseball as a child in Puerto Rico and continued as an adult by participating in many softball leagues while in the Army. He passed his knowledge of the game on to his kids and participated as a coach for many of their teams. Later in life, Luis became a devoted Houston Astros fan and enjoyed watching every game.
Luis leaves behind his beloved wife Lilly, son Eric Silva (Stacy) of Spring, son Wilson Silva (Christy) of The Woodlands, and son Mike Silva (Anna) of Houston. He was grandfather to Mike, Morgan, Tyler, Luis, Nicholas and Alex and great-grandfather to Mikaela and Ellie. Luis is also survived by brother Wilson Silva of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and sister Irma Silva Marti of Lajas, Puerto Rico as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will be holding a private funeral ceremony.
