Madeline Camel Whitted, RN was born in Lafayette, Louisiana on October 15, 1957. She was the first born child of Paul and Jeanelle Camel. She is survived by her husband, Fred, her children Erika, Charlie and Molly, her Godchild Melanie, her grandchildren, Max, Wiley, Vada and Sumer, along with her brother Terrel, and sisters Angie and Jessica. She joins her brother, Terry and her parents in heaven after her battle with cancer ended on November 12, 2023.
Madeline grew up in Lafayette and graduated from Teurlings High School in 1975. She then went on to achieve her secretarial degree. Not long after, she met her husband, Fred and they got married in April of 1982. They stayed another 5 years in Lafayette where their daughter, Erika and son, Charles were born, before moving to Arlington, Texas where their daughter, Molly was born.
Madeline was very involved in her childrens' lives as she volunteered and was a home room mom for many years. She also coached soccer and helped with their sports teams when they were young. She loved Louisiana and brought her culture to Texas with her, including when she organized events at her children's schools, and everyone loved that about her.
Acknowledged as one of the top students in her nursing class, Madeline was quickly titled as Charge Nurse at Tomball Hospital. A few years after she was recognized as a leader by becoming the Director of Nursing of Phoenix Healthcare Services. Madeline was also known for being a friend to her patients, often bringing them supplies or groceries when they were in need, and then coming home with fresh vegetables from their gardens or trinkets they wished for her to have.
Her grandchildren, Max, Wiley, Vada and Sumer were her whole world and she spent every minute she could with them. She often said they were the best medicine for her cancer treatment. They absolutely adored her too. Madeline's beautiful smile lit up a room and her laugh was contagious. She will be deeply missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know her.
In honor of Madeline, the family requests casual attire and scrubs for nurses and medical professionals.
