Martha Satterfield Garrett, 82, of the Woodlands, was called to Heaven on August 21, 2016. Martha was born in Garrett, Indiana to Roger and Kathryn Satterfield on July 22, 1934. She graduated from Port Arthur High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin. Martha received her Bachelor of Arts from Fort Lewis College in 1970. She married Clyde Cleveland Garrett on February 16, 1957.
Martha is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Garrett, her son Mark Coyote Garrett and her brother, William Satterfield.
Martha is survived by her brother, Bryon Satterfield and wife Michele, her son, David Garrett and wife Rachel, daughter Kathryn Hirth and husband Steve, daughter Lizabeth Riley and husband Tom, son Christopher Garrett and wife Nicole, and son Jeffrey Garrett and wife Kerry. She loved her eleven grandchildren: Madeline, Cianne, Jordyn, Matthew, Megan, Tristan, Coco, Nick, Tyler, Zach and Reganne and her great-grandchildren Hudson and Tucker.
Martha ("Tookie") had an incredible spirit and love for her family. She created a magical childhood for her children with newspaper-wrapped birthdays and handcrafted Christmas mornings. Martha and Clyde showed unselfish love when they welcomed Mark into their family as one of their own children. Martha always pushed herself to do more. She completed college while raising 6 children, learned calligraphy, piano and even auditioned with the Houston Choral for Handel's Messiah. She found her home in the Lutheran Church and built her life around her Christian values. She handled her last years of illness with grace and optimism. She leaves us here on earth with the comfort in knowing she is "mighty fine" in her heavenly home.
Martha's family would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Tranquility Care Home for making her last few weeks and last birthday memorable. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Martha's name to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
Visitation and a service will be held Friday, August 26, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Forest Park (The Woodlands) Cemetery, 18000 I-45 South 77384. Following the service, all are invited to a reception to celebrate Martha's life.
