Matthew Eugene Sweeney

He was born January 11, 1930 in Big Spring, TX to George Eugene & Mary Margaret Sweeney. Matt graduated Jesuit High School Dallas, TX and earned his B.S. in Petroleum Engineering 1951 from Texas Tech University.

After graduating from Texas Tech, Matt moved to Venezuela to work for Creole Petroleum Corporation as a Production Engineer. On October 23, 1954 he married Mary “Elaine” Gomez in Maracaibo, Venezuela.

From Venezuela Matt and Elaine moved to California so he could attend Stanford University. He graduated with an MBA 1964. He then worked for various oil companies in Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, & Midland in Planning, Regulatory, & Management.

In 1990 Matt moved to The Woodlands with Mobil Oil, then retiring in 1992 at the age of 62. Once retired, he spent time volunteering at Northwest Medical Center, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, & photography.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Patrick Sweeney.

Matt is survived by his wife, Mary “Elaine” Sweeney; daughter, Jo Anne and her husband Bob Lancaster; son, Mike Sweeney and his wife Susan; son, Steve Sweeney and his wife Dee Ann; daughter-in-law, Leslie Sweeney; grandchildren, Vicki and her husband Jace Norris, Kyle Sweeney, Melanie and her husband Josh Bowen; Allison and her husband Jordan De Prang, Garrett Sweeney, Trevor Sweeney, and Jackson Sweeney; great grandchildren, Henry Norris, Theodore Bowen, Caroline Bowen, and Emerson Bowen; brothers, Frank Sweeney and Jack Sweeney; and many cousins and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Matthew’s name to the St. Vincent De Paul Society at Sts. Simon & Jude Catholic Church, 26777 Glen Lock Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77381
