Mickey and Lou Ann started dating at the ages of nineteen and sixteen. Mickey was in the Army Reserves and had left for six months of basic training. Before he came home, he wrote a letter asking if Lou Ann would like to have a date when he returned. She said that was one the hardest letters to respond to because she didn’t want him to know just how excited she was. After their first date, they both realized that they were going to be together from then on.
Mickey attended Bee County College, where he received his Degree in Electronics. He was hired by Texas Instruments in Houston right out of college. Mickey married Lou Ann on June 2, 1973. After the wedding, they drove straight to Houston so that he could start his first day at Texas Instruments, where he stayed for the next twenty years. He worked at Kent Electronics for eight years and Weatherford International for fourteen years, where he met and became close friends with his coworkers.
On October 10, 1977, their first child, Christopher Alan, was born. A year later they bought their first home, where they lived for thirty years. On July 5, 1983, their daughter, Kimberly Ann, was born. Mickey and Lou Ann’s life was all about their children. They did everything as a family and that was important to Mickey. He was always there to help, but most importantly teach his children. He always encouraged them to do what they wanted to do in life while guiding them down the right path.
Mickey was Lou Ann’s husband, rock, and best friend. They did everything together.
Mickey had many hobbies, including wood working, fishing, hunting, and building RC planes. He made beautiful bowls and furniture. No matter what Mickey did, big or small, he researched everything and always found the best and easiest way to complete it.
Mickey has three wonderful grandchildren, London, 10; Isabella, 6; and Cooper, 2. He was crazy about his grandchildren and loved them very much. Mickey also had a nephew and niece, Mike Mathis and Laura Howard, who he loved spending time with.
Mickey is preceded in death by his father, John Fletcher Mayfield; mother, Laura Dorothy Mayfield; and sister, Betty Ann Mathis. He is survived by his wife, Lou Ann Mayfield of Conroe, Texas; son, Christopher Mayfield, and daughter-in-law, April Mayfield of Conroe, Texas; daughter, Kimberly Mayfield of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, London, Isabella, and Cooper; nephew, Mike Mathis; niece, Laura Howard; eight great nieces and nephews; and ten great great nieces and nephews.
