He was born in San Antonio, Texas on January 31, 1943. He graduated from Edgewood High School where he was a student athlete who played football and ran track and field. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Theology from the Gulf Coast Bible College (GBC) in Houston, Texas.
He married his high school sweetheart, Irene Garza, on January 11, 1963.
Frank Ortiz worked for the Ford motor company in Detroit, Michigan. He came to know the Lord at Southwestern Church of God in Detroit, where he served as a youth pastor under the mentorship of the late Dr. Benjamin Reid and the late Dr. Lawrence Wyatt. After completing seminary college he pastored several churches including Central Park Church of God; Woodland Church of God in Woodland, California; Spring Branch Church of God and the Northwest Iglesia de Dios. He served as a chaplain in local hospitals and performed missionary work in Venezuela and Panama. He served as President for the Church of God Hispanic Council for the State of Texas. He had a servant’s heart with a love for God and people.
He had a passion for spreading the Gospel; sports like track and field, Houston Astros baseball, Rockets basketball and Texans football. He loved dogs, western movies and classic cars. He was a purple belt in Japanese karate. He was a prolific painter who loved to capture landscapes and the city of Paris.
He had a tremendous sense of humor and brought laughter, positivity and joy everywhere he went. He was a family man that will be remembered as a great husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; six children; Jo Ann, Frank, Christine, Jerome, Joseph and David; their spouses, many grandchildren and great grandchildren; 1 brother and 6 sisters.
A visitation will be held on July 31, 2025, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home & Cemetery, located at 18000 Interstate 45 South, The Woodlands, TX 77384.
The funeral service will follow on the same day, starting at 11:30 am at the same location.
A graveside service will take place on July 31, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home & Cemetery.
A reception will be held with light refreshments for immediate family and out of town guests at the Funeral home from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm in the R.L. Wood event room.”
