He was born on September 23, 1935 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada to Lloyd and Gladys (Hall) McBride. He had one younger brother, Robert (“Bob”) Gary McBride (dec). Dick’s childhood was spent in Edmonton, Alberta where he attended Garneau Elementary & Middle School and Scona High School (1953) with his future wife Jeanne Gertrude Olstad. He was active in many sports including football (quarterback), basketball and swimming. Dick and Jeanne married on May 28, 1960 at St. Paul United Church in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Dick graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Medicine in 1961, completed his internship at the Edmonton General Hospital in 1962, followed by a Research Fellowship in 1963. Throughout his life Dick was active with curling, water skiing, snow skiing, golfing and traveling. He particularly enjoyed driving his boat on Lake Conroe where the family hosted many parties at their lake house. During retirement Dick and Jeanne became world travelers with trips to Australia, China, Israel, Egypt, Thailand, and many parts of Europe. Dick and Jeanne were quite the entertainers with their Annual Christmas Party, which was always the hit of the season. Dick had a love for art and in his later years, for nature too. He fed and housed the Purple Martins (birds) in the back yard, pruned the bougainvillea plants and always had a humming bird feeder ready for the season. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was their “Boppy” and he loved to tease them and play with them in his hot tub.
Dick is survived by his wife Jeanne; daughters (and sons-in-law) Joanne & Steve Taylor of Reston, VA, Judy & David Gerow of Houston, TX, and Jill & Bill Wise of College Station, TX; grandchildren, Jamie Gerow, Jeannie Taylor, Jessie Gerow, Josh Taylor, Joseph Wise, Jacob Gerow; one sister-in-law, Connie McBride of North Saanich, British Columbia; one nephew, Robert McBride of Canada.
