Ronald Katz Mathews

Ronald Katz Mathews, 73, passed away May 23, 2016 in Conroe, Texas. He was born on August 7, 1942. The day he was born, his father - a Marine - stormed the beach at Guadalcanal. Ron grew up in Elmwood Park, Illinois, surrounded by family. He enlisted in the United States Army at age 17 and served his country proudly for six years in Germany. While stationed in Stuttgart, he married Monika Becker Baumert and they enjoyed 47 wonderful years together until Monika’s passing in June 2011. Ron was a train enthusiast all his life, as well as history and photography buff. He had a strong work ethic and always went the extra mile to get the job done. Ron took pride as a diesel mechanic for Peterbilt and Mack Trucks. Later, he went into auto-body mechanics and managed several shops in the Houston and San Antonio areas. He finished college in his forties and went to work for Nationwide Insurance and then USAA as an auto adjuster agent where he retired. He was a volunteer member of the Houston Railroad Museum and New Braunfels Railroad Museum and History Preservation Society. As an active rail fan, he documented the work of both clubs through the lens of his camera and traveled the United States. His work has been published in several newsletters, websites and even in a coffee table book. Ron lived his life to the fullest with a great sense of humor, pride in our country, and love for family and friends. He leaves behind his daughter, Nicole Mathews Cooper and her Husband Dennis Cooper; his Granddaughter Amanda Mathews and her Fiancé Paul; Granddaughters Summer Cooper, Michaela Cooper and Great Granddaughter Zoriah. He will be greatly missed!

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 11, 2016 from 2-4pm at Forest Park - The Woodlands Funeral Home. Business Casual Attire is preferred.
