Vince passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025. He is preceded in death by son Joseph Avery of Lake Placid, Florida who passed on February 7, 1993, his wife Laura Avery who passed on June 25, 2022, his father Clifford Avery, his mother Lillian Avery, and brother William.
Vince was born and raised in Astoria, Queens, before moving to Mesa, Arizona for a few years and then headed back to Long Island. He and Laura moved the family to Florida and lived there for over 25 years before heading to the suburbs of Houston, Texas, where both are laid to rest now. He was a dedicated husband of 49 years and father to their four children, three surviving. He was a proud member of the Army National Guard for years prior to becoming one of the greatest long haul truck drivers there ever was. He dedicated his life to running loads across the country in every environment safely and proudly throughout his life. Every company he worked for was blessed to have him as a professional and asset in every aspect of the field. Vince ran his own trucking and escort companies for many of those years as well.
In his spare time, Vince became a member of the Elks Lodge of Lake Placid, Florida, dedicating his time to different positions from Chaplain all the way up to Exalted Ruler. You would find him in recent years sitting on a field or in the stands cheering on his grandkids. He also volunteered with many charitable organizations and at events raised money and supporting causes close to his heart for children, preserving history, seniors and animals. In this last year’s work, Vince was proud to be a part of helping the Texas Rangers Organization providing transportation of memorabilia to raise funds for memorial updates to honor those who have passed.
He is survived by daughters Tracy Kreamer of Spring Hill, Florida, Christine Miller of Spring, Texas, and son Michael Avery of The Woodlands, Texas, their spouses as well as nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his four sisters Patricia, Kathleen, Maureen, Irene and younger brother Cliff.
For the last few years, Vince reconnected with his childhood friends and enjoyed traveling and making new lifelong memories with them. Thank You Cherie.
"Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die."
