A resident of this area all of her life, Mrs. Sexton was born on June 30, 1927 in Davidson County to the late Joseph Benjamin and Bettie Helms Scarboro. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Greenwood Baptist Church, where she was a past Sunday school teacher. Sunday’s were always a day of rest for Mrs. Sexton and she always made sure to have daily devotions with the Lord each day. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, tending to her flowers, quilting, and sitting on her porch watching her birds. She will be remembered as one who always put other’s needs before her own and making people laugh with her kind sense of humor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Olin, Calvin, David, J.P. and Elmer Scarboro; her sister Jewel Scarboro Haynes; and brother-in-law, Red Haynes.
Surviving is her husband of over 69 years, Ray Sexton of the home; daughter, Janet Carter and her husband Bobby of Thomasville; son, Joseph Sexton and his wife Debora of Linwood; four grandchildren, Lisa Noah and her husband Rick, of Thomasville, Travis and Thomas Sexton, both of Asheville, and Lori Fisher and her husband Robert of High Point; two special women whom she considered daughters, Chris Haynes, her niece, and Jane Moore, the mother of her grandsons; and many numerous special nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mrs. Sexton’s life will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, May 13th in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph Street, with Pastor Mike Ferguson officiating.
