

Oscar A. Phillips, 75, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Oscar was born on November 16, 1939 in Yancey County, NC to the late Arthur and Belle Phillips. He had worked for many years at Thomasville Furniture as an Assistant Supervisor. Oscar enjoyed spending time with his family telling stories, playing his guitar, cooking, eating breakfast at Bojangles, making people laugh, and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are his wife of over 55 years, Betty Jo Phillips of the home; daughters, Tammy Phillips of Thomasville and Tonya Hutchins of Lexington; son, Rocky Alan Phillips of New London, NC; sister, Betty Elder; brother, L.C. Phillips; grandchildren, Josh, Daniel, Amanda, Hannah, and Rochelle; and one great granddaughter, Julia Bella Jean.
A celebration of Oscar’s life will be 7 pm Friday, March 27th in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph Street, with Pastor Junior Hutchins officiating. His granddaughter, Hannah, will perform a special musical tribute to her “PawPaw”. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, March 28th in Edwards Cemetery in Burnsville, NC.
