Ray served his country in the US Army during WWII. He later worked in the furniture industry and sewing machine repair for many years. Ray loved fishing, gardening and working in his flowerbeds. He was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.
Ray is survived by his daughter, Janet Carter and husband Bobby Carter of Thomasville; grandchildren, Lisa Noah and husband Rick of Thomasville, Travis and Thomas Sexton of Asheville, Lori Fisher and husband Robert of High Point; great grandchildren, Kennedy Grace Fisher and Andrew Joseph Fisher; two special women whom he considered to be like daughters, Chris Haynes and the mother of his grandsons, Jane Moore, as well as a very special caregiver, Bridget. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Grace Scarboro Sexton, in 2015 and his son, Joseph Ray Sexton, in 2020.
A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Sechrest-Davis Funerals and Cremations, 18 Randolph St., Thomasville, NC 27360, on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, May 23, 2022 at the funeral home.
