

Robert Lee (Pete) Martin passed away unexpectedly on Thursday November 21, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and faithful member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church in Thomasville, NC. Pete was born September 23rd, 1936 in Roanoke, VA to Ruby Gauldin and Oscar Lee Martin. He worked for over 30 years at Norfolk Southern Railway as a dispatcher and operator keeping the railroad safe by managing the lights and switches between Greensboro and Linwood, NC. Pete was the President of his Sunday School Class at Carolina Memorial and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. Everyone that met or knew him loved his outgoing personality and the way he could make friends anywhere he went.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol Mustoe Martin. Sons Gordon Martin (Linda) of Salem, VA, Edward Adams Jr. of Thomasville, NC, and Robert Martin Jr. (Theresa) of Pleasant Prairie, WI. Daughters Kerry Bowman of Luray, VA, Cindy Lowe of High Point, NC, Lisa Bohn (Jason) of Virginia Beach, VA, Sheila Bradshaw (Kenny) of Thomasville, NC, Angela Hayth (Lyn) of Roanoke, VA and Ellena Martin of Salisbury, NC. Brother Howard Childress (Debbie) of Vinton, VA. Grandchildren Gary Lee Bowman, Thomas Nichols, Heather Lucas, Cassie Shields, Christopher Nichols, Joshua Bowman, Jessica Lowe, Chip Lowe, Jacob Reece, Melanie Bradshaw, Caleena Reece, Shaleen Bradshaw, Jonathan Reece, Mary Katherine Hayth, Dillon Hayth, Jessie Bohn, Rayna Dula, Kelly Lowe, Jacqueline Bohn, Isabella Martin and Ruby Martin. 18 Great Grandchildren and Aunt Ethel Carwile of Roanoke, VA. He was preceded in death by his mother Ruby Childress, father Oscar Lee Martin, step father, Jesse Childress, daughter Donna Marie Nichols and son Steven D. Adams. He will be forever missed and loved.
