Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, surrounded by his family. Dear husband of Audrey for 47 years, loving father to Laura (Lindsay Kotick) and Marian (Rob Bryan). Adoring grandfather to Gillian, Sarah, Aynsley and Ellen. Greatly missed by brother Arnold (the late Sadako) and sister Hideko. Cherished brother of the late Yukiko and Mikio Nakamura and Mioko and Victor Shimizu. Fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and their families. Art was born in Vancouver, interned in Tashme during the war and later settled in Toronto. He was a loyal employee of Canadian Tire Corporation for over 38 years and was proud to consider himself part of the Canadian Tire family. Art treasured his friends and maintained strong lifelong bonds from all chapters in his life. He loved to travel with Audrey, curl and golf; he was a true Leafs fan. Always on the go, Art's idea of relaxation was moving rocks and planting trees at the cottage in Muskoka - a pursuit he was happy to share with any willing (unsuspecting) family or friends. Above all, family came first. He was so proud of his daughters, granddaughters, brother, sisters, nieces and nephews. He played an important guiding role in their lives and his legacy will live on in all of them. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St. (at Goulding, south of Steeles), Toronto, M2M 3W9. Private family funeral to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or koden, donations may be made to Hill House Hospice, 36 Wright St., Richmond Hill, L4C 4A1 or the Alzheimer Society of York Region, 800 Davis Dr., Unit 6, Newmarket, L3Y 2R5.
