Catherine Byers

Byers, (formerly Martin), Catherine Louise Emily-Catherine died August 14, 2010 after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer at the E. W. Bickle Centre, Palliative Care Unit, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. She was born in Toronto on August 4, 1941. Beloved eldest daughter of the late Catherine Stella and Gerald Byers. Much loved mother of Lucas and daughter-in-law Dianne. Dearest sister of Julie Thatcher and husband Jim, Carol McGuffie and husband Ian, Elizabeth Byers, David Byers, Michael Byers and Susan Falconer and husband Peter. Beloved aunt to Denise, Shari, Treina, LeeAnne, Tammy, Amanda, Kim, Keith, James and Raymond. Great aunt to Kristilyn, Danielle, Matthew, Taylor, Erik, Michael, Jacob, Murcedes, Izsak, Kaiden, and Joshua. She is predeceased by sisters Jill, Ann and Teena. Catherine was, without a doubt a natural and skilled gardener, who found both peace and happiness when surrounded by plants. The joy she gained from nature, she returned in abundance to those around her. To say she will be deeply missed is not near enough. The family would like to deeply thank the nursing staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the E.W. Bickle Centre. Dr. Ray Berry of E. W. Bickle Centre, as well as Dr. Ed Guttman and Jose San Pedro of St. Joseph's Transitional Care Unit are especially thanked for their support. Family and friends will be received at R. S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles Avenue) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday August 17, 2010. A Mass will be held at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church (670 Sheppard Avenue East, at Greenbriar Road, east of Bayview Avenue) at 11:00 a.m.on Wednesday August 18, 2010.
