Catherine "Kit" Hart

Passed away peacefully on February 15, 2016 at The Woodhaven Long Term Care in Markham, ON at the age of 93 years. Loving mother of Michael (Kathie) Hart of Waterdown, Terry (Sue) Hart of Ajax, Molly (Owen) Cosgrove of Toronto, daughter-in-law Lucy Hart of St. John's, Maureen (John) Jasso of Austin, TX and Eileen Hart of Toronto. Caring grandmother to Kellie (Stephen) Dutschek, Ryan Hart, Tim and Caitlin Hart, Kathleen and Shannon Hart and James Jasso. Preceded in death by husband William James Hart, parents William D'Arcy and Margaret (O'Leary) Shaughnessy, brother D'Arcy Shaughnessy Jr. and Louis Shaughnessy, son D'Arcy Hart and grandson Nicholas Jasso.

Kit was born on August 27, 1922 in Toronto, Ontario and grew up in the days of the Great Depression. She graduated from Loretto Abbey Catholic High School, just as her mother and grandmother had done before her. In 1952 Kit married William James Hart of Colbourne, Ontario. They were happily married for 47 years up until Bill's death in 1999.

Despite being busy with raising her six children, Kit always found time for volunteer work and willingly spent many hours volunteering at Extendicare Bayview nursing home, the Canadian Red Cross and Canadian Cancer Society. She attended Seneca College and graduated from the library technician program in 1978 and then worked for several years for Ernst & Whinney. Kit and Bill were active members of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church right from the early years of the parish. Kit was a longtime member of the parish Catholic Women's League and Ladies Craft group. Through the years she enjoyed tennis, skating, long walks, playing bridge and square dancing. Kit loved nothing more than to gather her family together for Sunday dinners.

Visitation will be held Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the RS Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St. (at Goulding, south of Steeles), Toronto. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 3220 Bayview Ave. (north of Finch), Toronto.
