It is with deepest sadness that the Stanton and Harper families advise of Colleen’s sudden and peaceful passing on Thursday December 16, 2021.
Loving eldest daughter to the late Fred and Lyla Kennedy Stanton. Loving niece to Carmel and Edward Yarema.
Loving wife of Bob Harper. Sister to Carmel (Kevin Gerencser), Fred (Paddy) and Robert (Caroline). Sister-in-Law to Martha Bailkowski (Don) and Jennifer Harper.
Proud aunt to Theresa (Jay), Marie, Laura, Elise Sara, Bridget (Jordan), Shaun (Laura), Ryan (Emily) Abby, Connor, Brian (Sarah), Christine (Mike), and Christopher.
Colleen’s love for Bob and Bob’s love for Colleen are so well-known and admired as a truly ‘Loving Couple’. Colleen’s love and care for Bob and her family was of supreme importance to her life. Colleen’s love for Romeo (her Dalmatian) was indeed extraordinary.
Colleen was a very kind, beloved, thoughtful, compassionate and caring friend. She was known for her ability to connect and to love and care for people, animals, and nature. She created a community and always focussed on the happiness and well-being of others. Colleen’s generosity was always appreciated by others, who so often received small gifts of kindness from her. She had the sweetest of smiles which lifted others up. Colleen’s middle name was Maura (Mary) as she gently practiced faith, hope and love in all she did, felt and thought.
Colleen was a modest, curious, and brilliant intellectual. She was a reflective and life-long learner, earning two baccalaureate degrees, two masters degrees and a Doctor of Philosophy of which Colleen was so very proud. Colleen’s professionalism was reflected in her work as a hospital and public health nurse, elementary and secondary school teacher, senior public health promotion manager, and health promotion consultant.
Colleen’s last 15 years were happily spent teaching online in a Master of Health Studies programme. She was known for her passion for academic excellence and as a leader in the pedagogy of kindness.
