Dear Amy;
I just learned today about the passing of your beloved David. My sincerest condolences to you and your family.

You and I met one evening in the summer of 1969 when Dave invited me to your lovely home to talk about my plans to go into teaching. I had graduated from Ryerson's hotel management program the year before and had just returned from a year working at a hotel in Edmonton. I had applied to teachers college but Dave told me about opportunities he knew about in the newly created community college system and offered to call his contacts if I was interested. And so he did -- at George Brown, Humber and Sheridan. As a result of his wonderful support I was hired by George Brown and had a 31 year career there.

I will be eternally grateful to Dave for his ongoing support. He was a remarkable teacher, a caring person who made learning fun rather than a stressful undertaking.I tried to follow in his footsteps as best as I could but he was a hard act to follow.

I remember the Thursday evening ball games during the summer between Torpitt and Grandview. I liked to wander over from our cottage and watch the games which were most often won by Torpitt. The one thing that I'll always remember was Dave being the catcher and coach. His enthusiasm was contagious and he always brought a smile to the spectators and players. I'll miss him for lots of other reasons too...not the least of all that he was my favorite "outlaw", the name he used to refer to his in-laws. Gary Black

Maryellen will always remember Uncle Dave's great smile and energetic greeting of "hey cuz!". 

I remember enjoying many early Saturday mornings heading to cottage country garage sales that Dave had mapped out the previous evening.

Uncle Dave is also the hero who saved our wedding ceremony by rescuing young Christopher, who had climbed a wall during our wedding vows.

We will always remember Uncle Dave's energy and contagious love for life.

Dear Amy, Matt and Jamie, Fifty years ago, a chance drive brought me to Sparrow Lake Lodge. Who knew that that fateful visit would spark such a long lasting and wonderful friendship? As a host, Dave was fantastic. His wit and personality made it impossible not to be friends. Honourable and a true gentleman, we are extremely grateful to have known him throughout the years. Distance prevented Huguette and I from visiting as often as we would have liked but that didn’t affect our ability to remain friends for so long. His loss will be keenly felt as he was truly a large personality. Please know that we are with you through the difficult times, in spirit if not in person. I remember when i was a child and we used to have sleepovers with our cousins, Dave would always sing us songs and prayers at bedtime, he had a lovely voice and we loved it.

Amy, Matt and Jamie, I was so sad to hear of your dad's passing. Although it's been such a long time, my memories of Dave (Mr. Darker to me still) are very fond. I remember a kind, gracious man, full of life, gentle jokes and so quick to laugh and smile. The Snodgrass Family can't say the Darker name without bringing up truly cherished memories in which Mr. Darker figures prominently. My dad considered Dave a true, close friend and always spoke so highly of him. Please know that I'm sending you warm hugs and my thoughts are with you during this tough time.

Dave will surly be missed at the cottage, He will be in our memories for eternity. Our sincerest condolences for the Darker family. We know the family will be there for Amy in this difficult time. Mike & Marge
