With great sadness we say goodbye to David John Darker, beloved husband to Amy, father to James (wife Carol) and Matt (wife Carolyn), grandfather to Nicholas and Ian and younger brother to Bill. He died peacefully on Sunday April 12th, 2015 at the age of 77. Dave bravely fought a rare and debilitating brain disease for many years.
Dave had a very successful and rewarding career teaching Hospitality at Ryerson University and Humber College. This allowed him to enjoy his summers up at his much loved cottage with family and friends.
Dave was passionate about many things such as the outdoors, flying, playing hockey, skiing and just being his charming self, able to connect with just about anyone and everyone. He was a true people person who had a zest for life and his family.
Fondly referred to as "Uncle Dave" by many students and friends alike, he was never without a smile and a caring hand or a corny joke!
Such a person leaves a large emptiness in our hearts.
He nods a fond farewell to all his chums at Upper Canada College, Cornell University, Grandview Lodge, Ryerson and Humber, The Toronto Argonauts and the United Churches of Maple and Teston.
Don't be surprised if you hear a faint whistling as he is happily woodcutting in heaven...
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 15th from 7-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street (at Goulding, south of Steeles). Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 16, at New Hope United Church 9100 Jane Street, Concord at 11 a.m. Private Interment. In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Diabetes Assocation or the Humane Society International would be appreciated.
