Born in London, Ontario at her beloved 281 Picadilly St., on June 9, 1923, our much-loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, CN Tower Edgewalker extraordinaire passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, July 20, 2014. Betty leaves a legacy of love to her five children- Jerry (Lynn), Marybeth (John), Marty (Kathryn), Dennis, Pat (Marion), seven grandchildren- James (Erin), Jeffrey (Heather), Robert (Melissa), Ryan, Jennifer, Becky, Scott, and two great-grandchildren- Lucy and Nicholas. She will be sorely missed by Norah and Molly, particularly at the regular Sunday dinners. She touched the lives of numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, who will also feel the loss. Betty was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Frank, her two sisters Mary and Jane, and her brother Jack. Betty trained as a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in London, ON and worked in her chosen profession at various hospitals and doctors' offices in Mississauga and Toronto. She enjoyed her work in the health care field but was most proud of her role as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She often reminded us that she had given birth to five children in seven years, in five different cities from Michigan to Ontario to Alberta. Mom was our touchstone, always ready to listen and support us. She was truly a "channel of peace" to family and friends who could always count on her in times of need. Betty always had an adventurous spirit, which likely helped her to cope with fourteen moves across the country in the early years of her marriage, many of these with children. This spirit really kicked in during her retirement years, when she enjoyed world- wide travel and cruising with Frank. Betty and Frank also enjoyed many years as snowbirds in Florida, where Betty got her boating license and captained the "Oh Betty Oh" through the Intercoastal waterways. She capped off her years of adventure with a walk around the top of Toronto on the CN Tower with her seven grandchildren, to celebrate her 90th birthday. We were dreading what she had planned for the 95th! Friends may call on Thursday July 24, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street (at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday July 25, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church, 75 Churchill Avenue. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory may be made to ShareLife.
